Justice For Pet Birds Allegedly Slain During Burglary

Target: Josh Stein, Attorney General of North Carolina

Goal: Charge teenagers with animal cruelty after they allegedly brutally murdered a family’s pet birds.

Two teenagers were arrested for allegedly breaking into a classmate’s home, robbing her of her possessions, and brutally killing her pet parakeets. In addition to reportedly stealing several items from the home, Hallie Pate and Jordan Ruiz allegedly slaughtered the family’s birds and smeared their blood on the home’s furniture.

The killing of two innocent birds is the truly horrific aspect of this reported crime. While apparently breaking into a classmate’s home to rob her was cruel enough, the stolen items can always be either replaced or returned. But the lives of two animals cannot be restored, and beloved pets cannot easily be replaced. This was an alleged act of violence committed against birds that were likely considered members of the family, as pets tend to be.

It is bad enough that an innocent person was robbed, but the loss of her pets is an unforgivable crime. This girl and her family deserve justice, and the alleged perpetrators must pay for their cruelty. Sign this petition to demand Pate and Ruiz be charged with animal cruelty.

Dear Attorney General Stein,

Two teenagers were recently arrested for an alleged act of robbery culminating in the slaughter of the victim’s two pet birds, and the smearing of their blood on the furniture. A robbery would have been bad enough, but the suspects apparently continued their crime spree by committing a horrific act of animal cruelty against two birds that did not deserve such a fate.

The suspects need to be punished severely for their alleged brutality. The items they reportedly stole can be replaced or returned, but the lives of the birds cannot be. These birds were more than just innocent creatures, they were beloved pets. The murder of a pet is a particularly deplorable example of animal cruelty. Please ensure that the pair faces justice for their alleged crime.

  1. That’s sad, hurting innocent animals in any way must be considered a serious crime!

  3. These 2 need an eye kept on them. Clearly sociopathic tendencies. Why do authorities never learn? Lock them up and leave them to rot!!

  4. Robert Ortiz says:

I mean what the hell? It seems like this country is seeing another uptick in crazy people doing terrible things to other people and animals. The two that did this need to be punished and counseled, otherwise it’s a matter of time before they’re behind bars again, maybe for worse.

    • These burglars need eliminating from this planet before they do any more harm- wicked, barbaric arseholes need to die for what they did to the birds

  5. Barton Dixon says:

“If a man aspires towards a righteous life, his first act of abstinence is from injury to animals.” Albert Einstein
“Compassion for animals is intimately connected with goodness of character; and it may be confidently asserted that he who is cruel to animals cannot be a good man.” Authur Schopenhauer
“If you have men who will exclude any of God’s creatures from the shelter of compassion and pity, you will have men who will deal likewise with their fellow men.” St. Francis of Assisi

  6. Kae Blecha, OTR says:

The killing of the birds is an act of defilement. Those kids are sick and they need to be dealt with.
