Target: Governor of Arizona, Jan Brewer
Goal: Commend an Arizona solar company for their completion and operation of a new clean energy producing facility.
An Arizona energy company, NRG Energy, recently began commercial operations of its new Avra Valley Solar Generating Station. The 25 MW facility located near Tucson, Arizona will generate enough power to supply up to 20,000 homes. Commend NRG Energy for their efforts towards supplying Arizona with clean, emissions-free power.
The facility will be operated through a direct subsidiary of NRG Energy, NRG Solar. The power it generates will be sold to Tucson Electric Energy under a 20 year agreement. Senior Vice President of NRG Solar, Randy Hickok, said, “Although NRG has many solar and thermal operations in Arizona, this project represents our first delivery of solar power to Tucson Electric Power, helping TEP meet Arizona’s renewable energy goals.” This new solar plant is the largest producer of renewable energy within TEP’s collection of green generators.
At peak capacity, the new Avra Valley plant will be capable of providing up to 20,000 homes with power. Under ordinary conditions, it will meet the annual power needs of approximately 5,000 homes. Use of clean power from the facility will avoid the annual emissions of about 51,500 metric tons of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere, the equivalent of taking over 10,700 vehicles off the road.
NRG Energy has worked hard to provide thousands of homes and businesses with clean solar energy. Avra Valley is the 6th of NRG’s large-scale solar facilities, the other five being in Yuma County, Arizona, Dona Ana County in New Mexico, and three facilities in California. This continued commitment to protecting our environment should be applauded. Sign this petition to urge Arizona Governor Jan Brewer to commend NRG Energy for their efforts to keep our environment safe.
Dear Governor Brewer,
NRG Energy, through their direct subsidiary NRG Solar, has recently begun operation of the new Avra Valley Solar Generating Station. The 25 MW facility at peak capacity will supply clean, emissions-free energy to up to 20,00o homes. This new plant is located near Tucson, Arizona, and will avoid the expulsion of approximately 51,500 metric tons of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere annually. This is the equivalent of taking 10,700 cars off the road.
NRG Energy has five other large-scale solar facilities in Arizona and the surrounding states of New Mexico and California. The continued commitment of this company to providing clean energy for thousands of homes and businesses should not go unnoticed. I urge you to commend NRG Energy and their subsidiary NRG Solar for their efforts to both provide citizens with green, non-polluting power and keep our environment safe.
