Protect Reportedly Abused Workers from Jail Time

Target: Police General Adul Saengsiew Kaew, Minister of Labor, Thailand

Goal: Protect workers who have accused their employer of abuse.

About 14 migrant workers from Burma who were reportedly abused by their employer are facing defamation lawsuits. In Thailand, it is the workers who were reportedly mistreated, not the company accused of the abuse, who face punishment of up to one year in jail.

These workers were paid below minimum wage. They were reportedly forced to work overtime, not allowed to change employers, and not allowed a single day off in months. Their official work and identity papers were also reportedly confiscated and held hostage.

Thammakaset Co. Ltd., the company allegedly committing such acts, should be punished, not the workers who were allegedly mistreated. Sign the petition to ask the Thai government to get involved and protect the abused workers.

PETITION LETTER:

Dear Minister Kaew,

Fourteen migrant workers in your country have allegedly been victims of abuse by Thammakaset Co. Ltd. However, they are the ones facing jail time for defamation, while Thammakaset goes unpunished. These workers reportedly faced horrific experiences, including grueling conditions and little pay. They shouldn’t be subjected to more mistreatment.

I demand that your government step in and defend these migrant workers. Ask that charges be dropped and show your nation’s workers that you’re on their side, not the side of large corporations that exploit human beings for profit.

Sincerely,
