Target: Leaders of the United States
Goal: Start a conversation about gun control in the United States.
By now the conversation about gun control is ringing loud and clear. With the recent tragedy that took place in Newtown, Connecticut, the entire country seems to be brought together in their sadness and willingness to see an end to senseless acts of violence. With shootings occurring all over the country—in places like hospitals, malls, schools, temples, city streets, and movie theaters—it is becoming increasingly clear that a conversation concerning gun control is not only worth having, it is imperative.
Already, since the sun has set on the grisly crime scene in Connecticut, more instances of gun violence have sprung up in places like Las Vegas, where an act of domestic violence has left two people dead in a popular casino along the Strip. On Saturday morning in Alabama, police shot and killed a gunman who opened fire in a Birmingham hospital. It has taken a lot for the United States to reach this point and it will take even more for it to begin to change, but that should not be a reason to avoid the topic. Not anymore.
It should never have reached this point—20 children should not have had to die for this conversation to truly begin—but sadly it has. As we look for answers in the midst of all this heartache, we cannot let the deaths of these children, and all the others who have died in similar circumstances, be in vain. Now is the time to discuss gun control, and we are ready. If you are ready to discuss real gun control policy in this country and want political leaders to do so, please sign the petition below.
Dear Leaders of the U.S.,
Enough is enough. For too long, the topic of gun control has been taboo—with political parties of every shade avoiding talks about regulations and restrictions to no end. We as a country can no longer afford to let this topic continue without it being confronted. It should never have reached the point that it is at, but it has.
I sign my name to this petition because I am ready to have a serious conversation about gun control. I am ready and I urge leaders of this country to begin the discussion. This country cannot afford to wait any longer.
