Ban All New Cosmetics Tested on Animals

Target: Bill de Blasio, Mayor of New York City

Goal: Do not allow the sale or import of any new cosmetics that have been tested on animals.

New York City may soon join the European Union, Israel and India in banning the sale and import of all new cosmetic products that have been tested on animals, thanks to a bill introduced by Cruelty Free International. New York would then become the first city in the United States to recognize that cosmetic products that have been tested on animals are unethical, and therefore are unacceptable.

Cosmetic testing on animals subjects countless rabbits, guinea pigs, mice and other defenseless creatures to harsh chemicals and other substances that often result in excruciating pain and injury. In many cases, animals are killed or must be euthanized as a result. However, this cruel form of testing is entirely unnecessary, and humane alternatives like artificial skin exist for ensuring that shampoo, makeup and other cosmetic products are safe for human use.

There is no need for any new cosmetic products to rely on such outdated and barbaric testing procedures. Sign the petition below to demand that New York City send a signal to the rest of the nation by banning the sale and import of all new cosmetics that have been tested on animals.

Dear Mayor de Blasio,

For the past several years, animal welfare advocates have pushed for a ban in New York City on new cosmetic products that have been tested on animals. With the introduction of the recent bill sponsored by Cruelty Free International, New York now stands to make history and become the first city in the United States to impose such a ban.

Cosmetic animal testing is unnecessarily cruel and results in the torment and painful deaths of many small animals, including rabbits, mice and guinea pigs. There are many known safe chemicals that can be used, and more humane testing methods like artificial skin, that have made animal testing obsolete. Therefore, we, the undersigned urge you to show your support for this bill and to do what you can to ensure that no new cosmetic products that have been tested on animals will be sold or imported into New York City.

  1. Please use other alternatives to animal testing. Animals should not be subjected to senseless cosmetic testing. Animal testing should be banned all together.

  3. Its time to step into the 21st Century. Apparently the Age of Enlightenment!

If your scientists do not know by now what is harmful to people then they should be fired immediately for incompetence! These types are only in to perpetuate their Golden Goose: excessive grants until they retire!

    Get rid of these parasites!

  4. There is no law in the U.S. that states that a company needs to test their products on animals. If there were, there would not be all of the cruelty-free products on the market that there are now, and there are thousands. Please consider what we are asking.

  5. Ban all new and OLD cosmetics that are tested on animals!

  6. You should also cut up alive, burn, and other absurd torments
This is absolutely murderous, diabolic and unnecessary
Is finally listening to animal experiments worldwide
There are enough people for labortests

  7. Alice Knight says:

This form of abuse is uncalled for. In thus day and age there are plenty of other ways to test cosmetics. Are we so VAIN that we could allow with a clear conscious to have our cosmetics tested on animals? Heaven forbid should we have to walk outside without make-up on!
