Demand the Supreme Court Allow Effective Gun Control

no more guns

Target: Supreme Court of the United States

Goal: Urge the Supreme Court to reconsider its Second Amendment rulings to allow effective gun control.

In the rulings of D.C. v. Heller (2008) and McDonald v. Chicago (2010) the Supreme Court made it impossible for the federal and state government to have effective gun control regulations. In light of the recent massacre of elementary school children, urge the Supreme Court to reconsider its rulings to allow federal and state governments to effectively regulate firearms.

U.S. gun control regulations are so lax that background checks are not even required for the sale of firearms, and assault clips with more than ten bullets are legal. In D.C. v. Heller the Court struck down Firearms Control Regulations Act of 1975 as unconstitutional. The Court held that the Second Amendment guaranteed private ownership of handguns and struck down requirements that all firearms be kept unloaded, disassembled or trigger locked. In McDonald v. Chicago the Court extended its ruling to the states, holding that the Second Amendment prevented the banning of handguns and other firearms and struck down regulations relating to rifles and shotguns. Americans are now faced with massacres on an almost weekly basis with shootings in malls, schools and other public places.

Sign the petition to urge Supreme Court Justices to reconsider their rulings. Federal and state governments are unable to implement effective gun control regulations due to the rulings. The US pays a heavy price in blood because of these cases. Urge the Supreme Court to reverse their ruling and allow federal and state government to implement effective gun control.

PETITION LETTER

Dear Justice,

In the United States, 97,820 people are shot every year. A whopping 268 people are shot every single day. U.S. gun control regulations are so lax that background checks are not even required for the sale of firearms, and assault clips with more than ten bullets are legal.

In your ruling in D.C. v. Heller you struck down the Firearms Control Regulations Act of 1975 as unconstitutional. You struck down requirements that all firearms be kept unloaded, disassembled or trigger locked. In McDonald v. Chicago, you extended your ruling to the states striking down a ban on handguns and regulations on rifles and shotguns. The recent massacre of elementary school children in Connecticut is a consequence of these rulings.

I urge you to reconsider your rulings in both those cases the next time a Second Amendment case appears before the Court. Too much blood has been spilled in gun violence, and the US has become accustomed to weekly massacres. Please revise your rulings to allow federal and state governments to effectively regulate firearms.

Sincerely,
