Justice for Malnourished Child Abuse Victims Reportedly Living in Filth

Target:  Darcel D. Clark, Bronx District Attorney, New York

Goal:  Demand justice for allegedly severely neglected siblings living in the Bronx.

A five-year-old boy was reportedly found recently in his home alone, unsupervised overnight, and wallowing in filth in the Kingsbridge section of the Bronx. He was allegedly in poor health and malnourished, and there was no food to be found in the family kitchen. Discovered by a delivery person who quickly contacted local authorities, the child told police he hadn’t seen his parents since the previous day. The living conditions were reportedly deplorable, with human feces and blood spattered on the walls and bathroom fixtures.  Horrifically, the dwelling was reportedly severely infested with both living and dead rats, roaches, swarms of flies, maggots, and bedbugs.

Although the boy was by himself on the day he was found, he is reported to be the youngest of four wantonly neglected children.  The elder siblings were said to be in school at the time, the parents stating they left the youngest home from class because he was ill. The father was quoted as saying his five-year-old son is “self-sufficient.” Apparently, all of the children have spent many hours unsupervised on a regular basis while their parents are away. Upon hospital evaluation, the five-year-old was found to have insects on his body, and three of the four children were treated for scabies, caused by mites burrowing under skin tissue.

The parents of these appallingly mistreated children, Charlotte and Wilfred Lewis, have been accused of child endangerment and four counts of failure to exercise control of a minor. The purported callous abuse and neglect surrounding this case doesn’t stem from the affliction of extreme poverty as both parents are gainfully employed, making their alleged actions all the more atrocious. If the allegations are found to be true, these irresponsible and reprehensible parents who acted on their own volition should be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law for the misery they have inflicted upon their children.

PETITION LETTER:

Dear District Attorney Clark,

The five-year-old boy who was found in a Bronx apartment allegedly abandoned and huddled in wretched filth and infestation, and his older siblings, deserve justice for the horrendous treatment they have allegedly suffered at the hands of their parents, Charlotte and Wilfred Lewis. The role of parents is to provide for their children and be a constant source of strength, wisdom, comfort, and love. The children, ages five to 15, have reportedly been denied the secure, healthy, and fostering environment that every child deserves and needs to healthfully and happily grow and thrive.

These young individuals have allegedly been robbed of their childhood, and the negative effect will be hard to overcome both mentally and physically. Every parent has the inherent responsibility to raise their children in a way that benefits both the child as an individual and society as a whole. It is the job of parents to nurture and protect their children, giving them every opportunity for health and happiness.

I ask for justice for these four children and the opportunity for them to experience life as it should be. No one, child or adult, should have to live in such an appalling and debilitating environment. Children depend on their parents to provide for them, and, sadly, in this case parental care and responsibility have not been extended. If the accused parents are found to be guilty, I ask that they be punished to the fullest extent of the law to send a clear message that parental abuse and neglect will not be tolerated in our society.

Sincerely,

  1. This is horrific ! This “father” is crazy , no child at 5 years old IS NOT capable of being SELF SUFFI CENT !!! This child is still a baby and needs responsible and caring “parents”. These SUB-HUMANS are NOT doing anything for these child ( children ) !!! They need to be mid-treated exactly the way they did to this child!! Then put in prison until they suffer and die !!!
