Target: Governor of Nevada, Brian Sandoval
Goal: Applaud the work of a Nevada energy company for completion of the first phase of a new solar plant.
Sempra U.S. Gas & Power recently announced that construction on the first phase of a new clean solar facility in Boulder City, Nevada, has been completed. This first stage, consisting of nearly 1.5 million solar panels, will provide emission-free energy for approximately 27,600 homes. Commend the efforts of this company to bring Nevada to a more sustainable future.
The new 92MW installation, Copper Mountain Solar 2, is located about 40 miles southeast of Las Vegas. During peak construction, the 1,100 acre site created about 630 jobs, stimulating Nevada’s economy. Completion of phase 2 is planned for 2015 and will produce an additional 58MW, bringing the total power output up to 150MW. Copper Mountain Solar 1, a previous project of Sempra U.S. Gas & Power, was completed December 2010 and currently provides power for about 17,000 homes.
Sempra U.S. Gas & Power is a subsidiary of Sempra Energy, a Fortune 500 energy services company with 17,500 employees. The company is a leading developer in the fields of renewable energy and natural gas, operating solar, wind and natural gas plants that provide clean energy for close to 1 million homes. Construction on a third facility, Copper Mountain Solar 3, is planned to begin 2014 and will provide Nevada with 250MW more sustainable photovoltaic energy.
This company has shown its dedication in the past to providing environmentally-friendly energy solutions, and continues to demonstrate this dedication through its completion of Phase 1 of Copper Mountain Solar 2. They will bring new jobs and clean energy to Nevada in the future through Phase 2 of this project and by initiating construction on Copper Mountain Solar 3. Sign this petition to urge Nevada Governor Brian Sandoval to commend Sempra U.S. Gas & Power for their continued contributions to keeping Nevada’s environment clean.
