Don’t Allow People Convicted of Domestic Violence to Have Guns

Target:  Jake Corman, Pennsylvania Senate Majority Leader

Goal: Demand that individuals convicted of domestic violence lose their permission to carry guns.

Currently in Pennsylvania, individuals who are convicted of domestic violence are permitted to continue carrying guns. Even if assault survivors take out a Protection-from-Abuse order through the courts, the perpetrator is still allowed to hold onto their firearms. This law protects their Second Amendment right, but not the rights of their victims to safety.

Victims of domestic violence fear for their lives every single day. However, lawmakers are listening to the interests of the National Rifle Association rather than the interests of their own constituents.

There is currently legislation in the Pennsylvania General Assembly that would make it mandatory for those accused of domestic violence to turn their firearms over to police. Sign the petition to demand that lawmakers protect victims of domestic violence by passing this legislation. Those who have already shown their disregard for human life should not be allowed to carry a weapon.

PETITION LETTER:

Dear Senator Corman,

Currently, survivors of domestic violence fear for their lives as those accused of assaulting them are allowed to freely carry firearms. Legislation in Pennsylvania protects the rights of the guilty, not the rights of the victims and survivors.

Currently, you and your fellow lawmakers are debating legislation that would force those accused of domestic violence, with a Protection-from-Abuse order against them, to turn in their firearms. This will keep more guns off the streets and more lives safe from horrible and senseless violence. I demand that you pass this legislation.

Sincerely,

They’ve already proven themselves to be dangerous so why allow them to have weapons to commit worse offenses?

  2. Sad that we have to sign a petition on a logical issue! Where are intelligent politicians?

just because you’re a criminal it doesn’t mean that you have a right to be free.
