Praise State for Boosting Animal Cruelty Punishments

Target: José Menéndez, Senator of Texas

Goal: Praise Texas’s increased punishment for animal abusers.

Penalties for animal cruelty in Texas have been boosted, thanks to a new law passed in 2017. Previously, perpetrators would only receive as little as 180 days for the most horrific acts of abuse. Now, they will receive anywhere from two to 10 years in jail; additionally, any loopholes that would excuse them of punishment have been closed.

With too many cases of animal abuse in recent years and several of these cases resulting in the animal’s death, these stronger punishments are a welcome development. Even in cases where it is too late to save an animal, it is comforting to know that their abuser will be punished as severely as if they’d killed another human being. The risk of increased jail time may also scare abusers straight, making them think twice before hurting an animal.

Animal welfare laws are some of the most important across the globe, and every step is a big one toward hopefully ending animal cruelty for good. Sign this petition to thank Texas for increasing their punishments towards animal abusers.

PETITION LETTER:

Dear Senator Menéndez,

Your new animal cruelty laws with increased punishments for perpetrators are a most welcome development. Animal abuse cases have increased within the past few years, several of them ending with the animal’s death and the abuser receiving much too light of a penalty.

Thanks to your new law, no animal’s suffering will be in vain as their abusers face up to 10 years jail time and no loopholes will exempt them from such penalties. These may not bring back the animals killed by their abusers, but they will still make examples of those people. Hopefully, such laws will make people think twice before hurting innocent animals, thus saving many from horrific fates.

Thank you for standing up for animal rights at a time where they are needed the most.

Sincerely,

  1. Margaret Melnick says:

Now if they can get their JUDGES to hand out stiffer sentences steps will really have been taken. In to many cases JUDGES are as guilty as the abuser handing out a slap on the wrist instead of a real sentences. Included in these laws should be a closing of the loop holes that allow judges to do this.

  2. Gen Agustsson says:

slapping on a wrist is violence. stop all forms of animal cruelity.

  3. Barton Dixon says:

THANK YOU José Menéndez, Senator of Texas: and please always give thought to the following quotes. “If a man aspires towards a righteous life, his first act of abstinence is from injury to animals.” Albert Einstein
“Compassion for animals is intimately connected with goodness of character; and it may be confidently asserted that he who is cruel to animals cannot be a good man.” Authur Schopenhauer
“If you have men who will exclude any of God’s creatures from the shelter of compassion and pity, you will have men who will deal likewise with their fellow men.” St. Francis of Assisi

    • Good quotes! If only law could be expanded so that NO (dog, rabbit, chickens…) animal should ever have to suffer due to actions by humans.

  4. Elizabeth Sargeant says:

Hopefully the courts will uphold the law now and let the punishment fit the crime!

  5. Thank you best news I heard in awhile harsher penalties, punishment the sickos need to see the law will not tolerate abuse torture mistreatment to any animal. And no getting out early for good behavior
