Ensure All Children Have Access to Safe, Equitable Education

Target: Theresa May, Prime Minister of the United Kingdom

Goal: Allow all children to attend school by pledging funds to the Global Partnership for Education.

Around the world, 264 million children are not able to attend school on a regular basis. Half of these children missing out on an education are girls. Natural disasters and conflict keep 75 million children out of school. Without accessible education for all children, global economic growth and prosperity will be limited. The Global Partnership for Education (GPE) has called on donors to urgently and significantly increase funding for education accessibility within their own countries, in addition to donating to a global fund with a target of $3.1 billion, which will be used to help provide education to children in 80 different countries that need financial support between 2018 and 2020.

The GPE is calling on the leaders of the Group of 7 (G7) to heavily support this movement for educational accessibility. The G7 is made up of Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, the United Kingdom, and the United States. These countries represent more than 62% of global wealth and have the largest advanced economies in the world. With funding from these countries, the GPE budget could be replenished and the G7 nations will demonstrate their seriousness in achieving equitable, inclusive educational opportunities for all children. Sign this petition to urge United Kingdom Prime Minister Theresa May to pledge funds to the GPE educational fund.

Dear Prime Minister May,

Children who have access to inclusive, equitable educational opportunities and learn to read, write, count, and live healthy lives will be able to better provide for themselves, their families, and their communities in the future. However, 264 million of our world’s youth do not have access to an education. The world’s poorest countries struggle to allot funding that will provide their children with free and safe educational opportunities on the primary and secondary level. In order to help bridge this financial gap, the Global Partnership for Education (GPE) has called on all nations, especially the wealthy G7 countries, to increase funding for education not only domestically, but also internationally. The GPE has set its replenishment target at $3.1 billion to be used between 2018 and 2020 to aid the world’s poorest countries to provide education to their children.

I desperately urge you to contribute to the GPE replenishment funding so that all children have the opportunity to receive an equitable and inclusive education that is safe and free.
