Urge China to Reduce Plastic Pollution in Oceans

Target: Xi Jinping, President of China

Goal: Create a plan to reduce plastic pollution in oceans.

Every year, 8 million tons of plastic waste is dumped into the ocean. China is one of the top five countries contributing to plastic pollution in oceans. A 2015 study conducted by the Ocean Conservancy and McKinsey Center for Business and Environment suggests that the high level of plastic pollution coming from China is a result of the growing national economy. Without drastic steps to reduce the plastic pollution, the ocean could contain one ton of plastic for every three tons of fish by 2025.

Creating a plan to reduce plastic waste coming out of China could drastically and positively affect this global issue. With the implementation of proper collection services, blockages of leakage points within the collection system, incineration, and recycling that separates plastic from other wastes, China could greatly reduce pollution. Sign this petition to urge Xi Jinping, President of China, to create a plan to reduce plastic pollution.

Dear President Jinping,

Every year, 8 million tons of plastic waste is dumped into oceans. China is one of the top contributors to plastic pollution in oceans. This global issue could result in drastic consequences: without changing our course, the ocean will contain one ton of plastic for every three tons of fish by 2025.

Countries like the United Kingdom have announced plans to reduce plastic consumption and pollution. Please join the movement to protect our world’s oceans by creating a plan to reduce China’s plastic pollution.

  2. Of course I’m signing but it will be a cold day in hell before China does anything from a humanity standpoint.

  3. gen agustsson says:

stop china from polluting the ocean like other countries. reduce plastic? ban plastic not reduce plastic. plastic is bad for environment. recycle now!

  4. I remember when everything was thrown out except newspaper which was bundled and recycled for cash. The rag man came to pick up old cloth and clothing. There wasn’t as much stuff made from plastic but anything made from it that was broken or old ended up in the landfill. I think that in order to reduce the amount of plastic in oceans and landfills we need more incentives to recycle and more facilities to recycle more kinds of plastic.
When I was in Beijing, people competed to get your plastic soda bottles. I assume they recycled them for cash somewhere. If we can up the desire of everyone to do that, it could make a dent in our problem. New plastic from old is the only way to reduce.

  5. china and trumps’ rump have lots in common….evil.

  6. I would like to see that China would take the lead in something other than destroying the planet!
