Stop Barbaric Annual Slaughter of Pilot Whales

Target: Aksel V. Johannesen, Prime Minister of the Faroe Islands

Goal: Ban whaling in the Faroe Islands.

Every summer, entire pods of pilot whales are killed on the shores of the Faroe Islands. The animals pass by the islands on an annual migration, but they do not know that local fishermen wait in the waters to push them close to the shore, where they are speared with metal hooks and dragged onto the beach. This annual hunt, referred to locally as the grindadrap, is heavily attended by local spectators who often help to drag the injured whales to the beaches. So many whales are killed that meat is often left on the beaches to rot.

This is all legal, despite whaling being outlawed in Denmark, as the Faroe Islands have independent laws from the mainland. Sign this petition to urge Aksel V. Johannesen, the Prime Minister of the Faroe Islands, to pass laws that protect the migrating pilot whales.

Dear Prime Minister Johannesen,

Every year, thousands of pilot whales are pushed to shore and killed on the beaches of the Faroe Islands. These are innocent animals that pass in their annual migration patterns. The violent slaughter of whales has become a spectator-attended event that is antiquated as a means of procuring meat.

Mainland Denmark has already outlawed whaling. Please follow their example and pass laws that will ban the killing of whales swimming off the shores of the Faroe Islands.

    • Lisa — I know you only from reading your comments — I get a kick … your responses are short & to the point — my comments are not quite as … YET, I know we’re on the same page when it comes to these idiot-abuser-monsters. Thank you.

  2. Denise Devereux says:

May God’s wraith come down like a spear on ALL those who abuse, torture and murder his creatures.
May they and theirs be hurt where they will hurt most.

  3. Gen Agustsson says:

stop it! didn’t the international court pass this law against whale killings?

  4. Daniela Bress says:

Torturing living beings barbarically to death as an initiation ritual has NOTHING to do with culture; it’s simply the tradition of people with a total lack of empathy and massive inferiority complexes instead who desperately try to feel superior for a short moment of their worthless existence.

If I were able to join your yearly massacres on wildlife NOT ONE SINGLE whale could be killed without killing ME before.
If necessarry, I’d prevent every piece of human trash from murdering such precious life, by using violent arguments!

There’s NO justification for your atrocities and as long as I live I will NEVER obey to a human law or ordinance which allows any crime against life – I’m extremely disgusted of my own species!

  5. I am appalled! I hope all the people watching and killing die soon, the world does not need such low-lives!

  6. Narukyn Glasgow says:

This awful world has no shortage of savages, does it? Killing for the sake of killing. No reason, just cruelty.

  7. SHAME on you humans for this NEEDLESS horrific slaughter of these magnificent animals — with such a wide variety of foods available to us, WHO in their right mind would engage in the abuse & suffering & gruesome deaths of these beautiful animals WHO, by the way, have every RIGHT to their lives! — LEAVE the whales ALONE — LET THEM BE! — STOP with your sadistic, depraved torture of these animals — your acts MUST land you in a psyche ward in PRISON!

  8. Elaine Milbourn says:

You people disgust me and all decent human beings. How can any civilised nation allow this sadistic cruelty to continue. Please, in the name of all that is decent and right, stop this unforgiveable carnage.

  9. Which has a better right to live then these whales, not the soulless humans who butcher these helpless creatures year after year. Why doesn’t Greenpeace come here and disrupt the killing??? Only Paul Watson and his crew of brave defenders did anything to help and now he is in hiding to keep from being imprisoned.
