Don’t Sentence Canada Lynx to Extinction

Target: Greg Sheehan, Deputy Director of the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service

Goal: Don’t allow the Trump administration to remove essential protections for Canada lynx.

The Trump administration has announced that it will begin the process of removing the Canada lynx from the endangered species list. Conservationists are outraged and claim that this decision is based on inaccurate estimations of Canada lynx populations.

The Canada Lynx was listed as threatened in 2000. Once abundant in 16 of the lower 48 states, lynx were then only present in 3 states. Although established breeding lynx populations now exist in Colorado, Montana, Maine, Minnesota, and Washington, conservationists say it is much too soon to remove the lynx from the endangered species list. Indeed, conservationists believe that the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service has dramatically overestimated lynx population recovery. Matthew Bishop, of the Western Environmental Law Center, states, “This is a political decision — pure and simple. This administration is throwing science out the window. The best science tells us that lynx are worse off than they were when originally listed in 2000.”

Sign this petition to demand that the Trump administration keep the Canada lynx on the endangered species list.

PETITION LETTER:

Dear Mr. Sheehan,

As recently as 2016, scientists at the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service concluded that the Canada lynx was at high risk of dying out in the lower 48 states by 2100. Understandably, many conservationists are confused by this year’s report that the lynx are no longer at risk and may soon be removed from the endangered species list. Canada lynx are still confined to just a fraction of their former range. Habitat loss due to logging and development is one of the main threats to lynx survival. Furthermore, without government protections, lynx may be once again hunted for their fur. As a species that thrives in cold boreal forests, lynx populations could also be devastated by rising global temperatures, and thus need our protection more than ever.

I ask that you and your colleagues at the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service do all that you can to make sure that the Canada lynx retains its protected status.

Sincerely,

[Your Name Here]

Is there not one single thing that Trump could come up with that would be decent? What an odious person.

We know Trumpton hates all wildlife , so why can’t we despose of him and his cronies. Who are the morons who put these idiots in power in the first place. The Trump establishment won’t be happy until they’ve destroyed all wildlife and poor people, and dropped the bomb which is inevitable. He’s another war monger, and a dictator, with a depraved heart of stone.
