Target: Lewis & Clark Law School
Goal: Congratulate Lewis & Clark College for their contribution to the field of animal law
In 2008, the Law School at Lewis and Clark College began a collaborative effort with the Animal Legal Defense Fund to create a program for the study and development of animal rights laws. It is currently the top program in the country and allows students to earn a certificate or a Masters Degree focusing on areas like legislation and litigation, lobbying, wildlife law, and international animal law.
Currently, there are numerous studies taking place at the Center for Animal Law Studies. These include studies on the relationship between animal abuse and domestic violence, the relationship between racism/sexism and animal rights, as well as working with legislation to end breed discrimination.
Since it’s creation, the program has been at the forefront of animal law and is responsible for a number of animal rights firsts (a list of which can be found on their website), such as being the first animal law clinic with full-time faculty and having the first animal law fellow.
Providing animals with more protection throughout the legal system will make great strides in ensuring that animal’s rights are upheld. Sign this petition to praise Lewis and Clark College for giving more people the resources to defend the defenseless and give a voice to the voiceless.
Dear Lewis and Clark Law School,
In 2008 you created the Center for Animal Law Studies, and since its birth it has been responsible for a number of animal rights firsts. It has also become the preeminent animal law program in the United States. Giving people the means to defend animals from within the legal system is a significant step in securing the rights they have been so regrettably denied.
Thank you for your commitment to preserving the rights of animals and ensuring that they have a strong voice and a bright future.
