End the Torture of Live Animals for Military Trauma Training

Target: Mitch McConnell, Senate Majority Leader

Goal: Stop the mutilation and killing of live animals and improve U.S. military trauma training by passing the “Battlefield Excellence through Superior Training Practices Act.”

Each year, over 8,500 innocent animals are mutilated and killed for the purpose of military training, despite the fact that the Department of Defense recommended ending this barbaric and cruel practice nearly a decade ago. Pigs and goats are among the live animals that are shot, burned, stabbed, or have their limbs broken so that members of the military can practice responding to severe injuries on the battlefield.

This brutality continues to take place even though developments in science have rendered this use of live animals unnecessary and obsolete. The Battlefield Excellence through Superior Training Practices (BEST) Act would do away with these expensive, ineffective, and gruesome practices in favor of better and more humane training drills. Sign below to demand that this bill be passed, and thousands of innocent animals be saved from torture and death.

Dear Senator McConnell,

The use of live animals in military trauma training is ineffective, expensive, unnecessary, and utterly inhumane. The Department of Defense recommended doing away with this type of training drill almost a decade ago, but still over 8,500 innocent animals are tortured and killed for this purpose each year.

Animals like pigs and goats are burned, shot, and mutilated so that medics can practice responding to gruesome injuries on the battlefield, but scientific developments enable members of the military to be thoroughly and more effectively trained without this obsolete and brutal torture of live animals. The Battlefield Excellence through Superior Training Practices (BEST) Act would ban these expensive and cruel drills in favor of better methods of training members of the military in the essential, life-saving skills they need. I urge you to ensure that the BEST Act is passed and the lives thousands of innocent animals saved.

  3. Former Army wife who heard about this heinous practice from my now ex- husband who participated in this.
Barbaric and just down right evil as far as I’m concerned.

  4. This is cruel and unnecessary. Even as a member of the medical community, we don’t use animals in our training has it has been validated that it’s basically useless. We only train on mannequins and the like. Please do the same!
