Release Journalists Reporting on Police Abuse

Target: Balram Das Tandon, Governor of Chhattisgarh

Goal: Release from prison the 14 journalists who were reporting on police abuse and government overreach.

In 2017 alone, 14 journalists were arrested by the government of Chhattisgarh, a state in India. Most of these journalists were investigating police abuse and government overreach. However, all were arrested and charged with extortion, with very little evidence against them.

The year 2017 was one of the most dangerous ones for journalists, and India is no exception. These reporters were abused by police and harassed by government officials. They have been punished only for pursuing a story and doing their jobs.

Sign the petition to demand that these reporters be released. They pose no threat to the government and no threat to the public. They are simply doing their jobs.

PETITION LETTER:

Dear Governor Tandon,

In your state, 14 reporters have been arrested in 2017 alone. For them, what began as jobs reporting on police abuse and government overreach turned into life in a cell for extortion. However, there is little to no evidence against any of these 14 individuals.

Your government is only adding to the danger journalists have faced and will, unfortunately, continue to face. No man or woman should fear the loss of freedom or life simply for doing their job. I demand that they be released immediately and allowed to return to work.

Sincerely,

[Your Name Here]
