Prevent Animal Abuse: Demand Cameras in Pet Care Facilities

Target: John Kasich, Governor of Ohio

Goal: Require cameras in all rooms of pet care facilities to combat animal cruelty.

A young pit bull in Ohio named Leo was allegedly kicked and abused by a staff member at the doggie daycare facility where he was staying while his owner was on vacation. The facility, the Tails R Waggin’ care center in  Tallmadge, Ohio, has cameras in certain areas, allowing Leo’s owner Mike LaSalvia to check in on his dog via video. However, some rooms in the center do not have cameras, including the ‘time out’ room that Leo was allegedly kicked into.

The staff member accused of mistreating Leo, Amy Beach, allegedly pulled on his collar, stamped on his head, and kicked him into the time out room, where she was alone with him off-camera. Beach says she was stopping a fight and that she was worried that this “aggressive pit bull breed” posed a threat, but leading up to the incident, the last thing owner Mike saw on camera was Leo happily being brought to play with the other dog, his tail wagging. This type of mistreatment is preventable — animals should never be taken off-camera in pet care facilities. Sign below to demand that “Little Leo’s Law” be put into action, and that cameras become mandatory in all rooms, hallways, and outdoor areas of these facilities.

PETITION LETTER:

Dear Governor Kasich,

Incidents of animal cruelty in pet care facilities are preventable and must not be allowed to continue. These animals are innocent creatures, and their families are trusting and paying pet care centers to do what is best for them. These facilities must be held accountable, and owners must be able to monitor the treatment of their pets.

After the alleged abuse of Ohio pit bull Leo by a care center in Tallmadge, Ohio, the need for cameras in every area of these centers that the animals pass through is undeniable. Leo was allegedly stomped on and kicked by a staff member into a room where he was then left alone with her, off-camera. This type of cruelty cannot be allowed to stand. I urge you to enforce “Little Leo’s Law” and require cameras in all rooms, hallways, and outdoor areas of pet care facilities.

Sincerely,

  1. We should have cameras in all forms where animal abuse might happen (or does happen) such as in pet-care facilities or factory farming, fur/leather farms, animal laboratories, animal circuses.. Better yet, we should end all of these evil practices!

  2. THESE PLACES ASK FOR YOUR BUSINESS. LET’S KEEP OUR PETS SAFE WHICH IS WHAT THEY PAY FOR. SHUT THEM DOWN IF THEY REFUSE TO TREAT THESE PAYING CUSTOMERS LIKE CRIMINALS. KEEP OUR PETS SAFE FROM HARM.
