Ban Bird-Killing Plastic Tree Spikes

Target: Theresa May, Prime Minister of the United Kingdom

Goal: Remove and outlaw dangerous tree spikes in the United Kingdom.

Trees and birds alike are being severely harmed by the new practice of hammering plastic spikes into branches, a measure taken to ‘protect cars from birds’ in the United Kingdom. Car owners are so desperate to protect their property from bird droppings that they are willing to endanger millions of innocent birds and do harm to trees with these plastic killing implements, reasoning that they can ‘afford’ the loss of a few pigeons or trees.

This move is not only selfish and ridiculous, but inhumane. This is a blatant attack on nature for the sake of protecting a material possession; cars may be vital to transportation, but the truth is that cleaning bird droppings off the exterior is only a mild inconvenience. People are condemning birds to death to avoid that mild inconvenience, despite birds being a vital part of the planet’s ecosystem as well as innocent living creatures.

These deadly spikes must be removed from trees immediately and permanently banned from defiling any more trees. Nature itself is at stake, and we cannot sacrifice it for the sake of keeping material possessions clean. Sign this petition to outlaw the use of plastic tree spikes.

Dear Prime Minister May,

Recently, flat owners in Bristol county have been hammering plastic spikes into trees to protect their cars from birds. This measure involves harming or even killing any innocent birds that just happen to get too close to a precious car and potentially defile it with their droppings. This is transparent proof that people care more for material possessions than they do for living creatures and trees, and it must be stopped. Trees are a vital part of nature itself, and birds are not only important to the ecosystem, but living creatures.

You must implement and enforce a law against the use of these deadly spikes. Cleaning bird droppings off of a car is a mild inconvenience at most, and people are willing to let birds die just to spare themselves that mild inconvenience. This practice must be stopped and criminalized at once, to protect nature from human selfishness. The future of the environment depends on it.

I don’t know if these bird spikes are actually injuring and killing birds but if they are I would ask the government to “Think occasionally of the suffering of which you spare yourself the sight.” Albert Schweitzer

In any case, I would also ask the government to always consider the following in their decisions. That “The greatness of a nation and its moral progress can be judged by the way its animals are treated.” Mahatma Gandhi
“If a man aspires towards a righteous life, his first act of abstinence is from injury to animals.” Albert Einstein
“Compassion for animals is intimately connected with goodness of character; and it may be confidently asserted that he who is cruel to animals cannot be a good man.” Authur Schopenhauer
“If you have men who will exclude any of God’s creatures from the shelter of compassion and pity, you will have men who will deal likewise with their fellow men.” St. Francis of Assisi

plastic is bad for the environment.
