Stop Blaming Women for Sexual Harassment

Target: Marcy Kaptur, Ohio Representative

Goal: Demand lawmaker apologize for victim-blaming comment regarding sexual harassment.

Ohio representative Marcy Kaptur said, publicly, that women’s clothing choices are “an invitation” to sexual harassment, namely anything that reveals even a portion of their breasts. She went on to say that women need a stricter dress code in order to prevent sexual harassment by males, in the wake of Senator Al Franken and two representatives resigning due to misconduct allegations.

Kaptur claims that she did not intend to blame victims for their own harassment, but there is no other way to take her comments. Sexual harassment of any kind is solely the fault of the instigator and their inability to control their lewd behavior. It should not matter what the victim is wearing, even if the victim is a woman in a cleavage-revealing outfit. While a dress code is important to ensure that employees look professional, a woman should never be accused of ‘asking for it’ simply because she does not hide the fact that she has breasts.

Kaptur may not have meant to victim-blame, but she did, and she must apologize publicly. Sign this petition to demand Kaptur retract her accusations of women’s clothing inviting harassment.

PETITION LETTER:

Dear Representative Kaptur,

Your recent comments that women’s clothing choices “invite” sexual harassment from men were out of line and constituted victim-blaming. Even if you did not intend them that way, there is simply no other way to read them.

Victim-blaming has been much too common in sexual harassment and rape cases for decades, especially towards women. When a woman reports sexual harassment or assault, one of the first questions she is often asked is what she was wearing. Instigators will always claim she was ‘asking for it’ for something as simple as wearing a short skirt or high heels. To have a female representative such as yourself echo these comments is appalling. It perpetuates rape culture and normalizes victim-blaming even further.

You must apologize and retract your statements immediately. Sexual harassment is always the fault of the instigator, no matter what the victim is wearing, and the public must learn this instead of learning to blame a woman for her own assault based on her clothing choices.

Sincerely,

stop it! stop blaming and arresting victims!

  2. Its funny ,Trump ,his cronies and morons like the moron kapotur forget that without woman the human race would be extinct, dress does not make a woman, its men who are the weaker sex,as they just see sex, think sex ,brain dead animals

    • Maurice Robison says:

sheila bussue: The same also goes for the male of the species. Without man, the human race would also become extinct! Speaking of morons, and judging by your punctuation and lack of capitalization, it would appear that “weakness” or strength isn’t accorded because of a person’s gender! You lean more toward being brain dead, but I don’t know why you brought animals into this. They’re actually much smarter than the person that many people see in their mirror.

According to your fairy tale, you allude that women must be responsible for all the progress and all of the inventions of any and all civilizations since the beginning of time, since men only think about sex and creating other human beings. We both know that’s not true!

The only way that women seem stronger than men is because of your longer life expectancy. That would be because we basically work ourselves to death, trying to please you! Hopefully, not all women are as cold, calloused and hateful as you are, and they can actually appreciate us for what we are.

And how is it that there isn’t any petition entitled “Corporate overlords, stop frustrating men by manipulating women with your 13 different toxic variants of pseudofeminism, which is only another way of aggressive atomisation of the society in general and doesn’t benefit anyone, it only victimizes everyone in their minds”? 😉 Think about it. Anyone who’s gonna reply a toxic comment on this – doesn’t think, only reacts, which is a proof of being manipulated already. 😉

  4. Ohio representative Marcy Kaptur is an idiot. Anyone with half a functioning brain knows that sexual harassment and rape is NOT about sex, it’s about POWER and CONTROL. Sex is just the weapon. It has NOTHING to do with what someone wears, or how much they drink, or how late they stay out. If she, and her ilk, can’t wrap her mind around this, then she has NO BUSINESS AT ALL making decisions for others, and needs to step down, immediately.

    • Maurice Robison says:

Judie: My condolences on the loss of the other half of your brain! How blissful life would be if all the people who have no business making decisions for others, would just step down. But sometimes it seems like then there wouldn’t be anybody left who could govern us!

Rape may be somewhat about POWER and CONTROL, but if you think it has nothing to do with SEX, you’re an idiot! Representative Kaptur was merely stating some truths that may be inconvenient for some of you. You obviously refuse to take any responsibility for your own actions and choices.

Many women believe that men think about sex all the time. Add to that the fact that most men can overpower a woman, and it has to make one wonder what women are thinking when they go out among men, dressed in skimpy or very revealing clothing; when they knowingly drink enough alcohol to cloud their judgment and when they stay out to all hours of the night.

These women are smart enough not to step into a lion’s den with a piece of raw meat hanging around their necks, but they’re clueless when it comes to doing the other actions that separate them from the herd and make them easy prey for a hungry predator. Yes, men should control their urges, but even a predator who isn’t hungry can only withstand so much provocation before he reacts to it. We SHARE the responsibility for what happens!

What the fuck is this bitch Marcy Kaptur going on about, trying to have all women covering them selves up like the bloody Muslins.

Marcy Kaptur drop dead you bitch.

The trouble is the men can do what they want and dress in what they want. And rape innocent women because of their dress. What a lot of bull shit. This evil bitch Marcy Kaptur is sticking up for the bloody male species. She is an idiot and has a pea size brain. So crawl back into the filthy cesspool you crawled out of Marcy Kaptur.
