Don’t Destroy Public Lands in Massive Fracking Auction

Target: Ryan Zinke, United States Interior Secretary

Goal: Drop plans to sell off hundreds of thousands of acres of public land to oil and gas companies interested in fracking.

The Western United States are famous for their beautiful desert vistas and rolling plains. However, up to 1 million acres of public land in states including Nevada, Utah and Wyoming will soon be up for grabs for oil and gas companies if the Trump administration has its way. Department of the Interior secretary Ryan Zinke has announced that the Bureau of Land Management will move forward with plans to auction off 700,000 acres of land for fracking this month alone.

Fracking is a dangerous form of drilling that pollutes groundwater with hazardous chemicals. It has also been shown to trigger earthquakes and cause explosions. While the Trump administration has previously shown little regard for national monuments and other protected lands, this proposal will likely have catastrophic effects that will kill wildlife and put human communities at risk.

The cost of allowing major fossil fuel companies to recklessly exploit these sensitive environments is simply too great to allow. No amount of profit is worth poisoning the land and water that we all rely on. Sign the petition to demand that these public lands remain safe from the hands of oil and gas companies.

Dear Secretary Zinke,

Please immediately stop all plans to auction off upward of one million acres of public lands in the states of Nevada, Utah, Wyoming, Montana, Colorado and New Mexico. These lands belong in the public trust, not in the hands of oil and gas companies who wish to explore fracking and other forms of drilling.

Fracking causes irreversible environmental damage wherever it is permitted. The chemicals used in the process are highly toxic to waterways and can cause harmful explosions. The scale of devastation that this auction could result in is simply unthinkable and must not be allowed to proceed. We, the undersigned, urge that you reconsider this proposal so that these unique environments are kept safe for both wildlife and future generations to enjoy.

Another idiotic boot-licker. I did not give permission to do this to my public lands that are supposed to be protected! I am part of the public and I say NO! The land around fracking sites is destroyed, water tables polluted, even earth quakes (ask the people of Oklahoma).. Stupidity and Greed to pay the rich for their donations.

  2. Those that destroy our planet for greed so carelessly – I hope God will do the same to them!
