Ban Animal Abusers from Owning Guns

Target: John J. Cullerton, President of the Illinois Senate

Goal: Ban convicted animal abusers from buying guns in Illinois.

Countless lives could be saved if the state of Illinois bans gun ownership for convicted animal abusers by passing an unprecedented common-sense law. Studies prove the correlation between violence against animals and violence against other humans, and if Illinois passes the proposed law, it would set an example for other states to do the same. This would be a huge step forward in the fight against gun violence in the United States, which has become a rampant epidemic and cut short thousands of lives.

According to research conducted by Politifact, more Americans were killed by gunfire from 1968 to 2011 than in all of the wars the U.S. has ever fought (1.4 million versus 1.2 million). A study by the Chicago Police Department revealed that 65% of people arrested for abusing animals had been arrested in the past for battery against another person, while a separate study of seven school shootings showed that all of the perpetrators had committed violent acts against animals. The connection between animal cruelty and violent behavior toward humans is clear. Sign below to demand that this positive step toward addressing the epidemic of gun violence be taken, and the law banning gun ownership for convicted animal abusers be passed.

PETITION LETTER:

Dear Senator Cullerton,

Gun violence is rampant in our country, costing the United States thousands of innocent lives. It is vital that steps be taken to address this epidemic, and the state of Illinois has the opportunity to take a critical step and thereby set a precedent for the rest of the country to follow.

Many studies show the correlation between violent behavior toward other people and animal cruelty. A law forbidding convicted animal abusers from owning guns is a preventative measure that could save countless lives. I urge you to pass the law banning gun ownership for animal abusers.

Sincerely,

  2. NO GUNS FOR THESE ANIMAL ABUSERS NOW.

  3. Ummm… you know under Illinois law, most animal ABUSE is already a felony? Which means those convicted already can’t lawfully own guns.

Why do you need my full adress , is my name and country not enough?????
Its irritating to fill in all these information and its useless too…

  5. It always amazes me the lengths that gun haters will go to get rid of public ownership of firearms. This is simply more liberal gun control that will solve absolutely nothing, will NOT save “countless” lives, and is simply another foot in the door. I can’t stand anyone who would abuse an animal but this is simply gun control packaged to look good to us animal lovers!!

  6. I agree fucken animal abusers they need to be shot

  8. Animal abuser hide well in the crowd, even when convicted, unless is is tattooed on their forehead.

Once they are found – yes they should never be allowed to own a gun. But, it’s too easy to get one, and money buys pretty well everything.
