Microsoft: Stop Supporting Deadly Child Labor

Target: Satya Nadella, CEO of Microsoft

Goal: Stop supporting the cobalt industry’s use of deadly child labor.

Microsoft is supporting child labor by using cobalt mined by children throughout the world, including China. Amnesty International has released a report arguing that Microsoft has done little to clean up its production chain.

Cobalt, used in batteries in a wide variety of electronics, is largely mined by hand. Children have been killed by collapsed mine tunnels and dangerous lung diseases while mining cobalt. However, despite the ever-rising number of deaths, major companies like Microsoft have done little to make a change.

Sign the petition and demand that Microsoft end its support of child labor. Demand that the tech giant not financially support the cobalt mines using child labor. Perhaps other companies may follow suit.

PETITION LETTER:

Dear Mr. Nadella,

Your company is directly supporting child labor in China by using cobalt mined by children in the batteries of your many devices. Children are suffering under harsh conditions, and even dying, while you make millions from their labor.

I demand you end your support of child labor. Pull your finances out of the mines that use children to collect cobalt. Turn to more ethical sources instead. With your lead, many more organizations will undoubtedly follow.

Sincerely,
