Charge Officer Who Reportedly Shot and Killed Teen

Target: Armando Perez, Bridgeport Police Chief

Goal: Release video footage of reported police shooting of unarmed teen, and bring criminal charges against the officer responsible.

Protests broke out demanding the release of surveillance video and other footage of a Bridgeport, Connecticut police officer who reportedly killed an unarmed 15-year-old, and calling for criminal charges to be brought against the responsible officer. Jayson Negron was killed, and 21-year-old Julian Fyffe—a passenger in the car Negron was driving—was wounded. According to a state prosecutor, the shooting remains under investigation. The rookie officer in question, James Boulay, remains on paid administrative leave.

Bridgeport Police Chief Perez said that Officer Boulay opened fire after a car chase, when the stolen SUV Negron was driving reversed and almost hit Boulay. However, according to the passenger Julian Fyffe, there was no chase. He says that he and Negron were trying to surrender, and that Boulay tried to forcibly pull Negron from the car, causing it to reverse when Negron’s foot came off the break. Boulay allegedly then began shooting, despite the fact that both Negron and Fyffe were unarmed. Jazmarie Melendez, Jayson Negron’s sister, says authorities are covering up the truth of the story: “We know that they’re doing everything in their power to make Jayson look like he was in the wrong when we know that he wasn’t. We’re tired of the lies.”

Rampant police brutality and its disproportionate effect on minority communities are huge problems that must be addressed. Sign below to demand that video of this incident be released and that the cop who reportedly killed an unarmed teenager be punished for his alleged actions.

PETITION LETTER:

Dear Police Chief Perez,

Police are sworn to protect and serve their communities. When an officer shoots and kills an unarmed teenager, it cannot be ignored. The protests that broke out demanding the release of video footage showing the shooting of Jayson Negron, and that Officer James Boulay be brought to justice for his alleged actions, show that this tragic event is not being dealt with appropriately and must be addressed.

Jayson Negron was only 15, and was unarmed when Officer Boulay reportedly shot and killed him. According to Julian Fyffe, who was injured in the same shooting, he and Negron were trying to surrender to police when Negron was killed. Jayson and his bereaved family deserve justice for this tragedy. I urge you to release the video of this incident and to ensure that Officer Boulay is held accountable and charged.

Sincerely,
