End Criminal Punishment for Women Seeking Abortions

Target: Francisco Domínguez Brito, Attorney General of the Dominican Republic

Goal: Stop punishing women in the Dominican Republic for seeking abortions.

Women seeking abortions in the Dominican Republic are treated as criminals. They’re punished for making a choice in regards to their body and even for acting to save their own lives when pregnancy proves dangerous.

The criminalization of abortion in the Dominican Republic is so severe that the United Nations has stepped in and demanded that criminal punishments be brought to an end. They have also asked that women whose lives are in danger due to pregnancy have access to safe and legal treatment.

Women should not be punished for making a choice about their bodies and health. To do so only threatens them more as they look for dangerous alternatives. Sign the petition and join the United Nations in calling for an end to the criminalization of abortions in the Dominican Republic.

Dear Attorney General Brito,

Women in your country who are endangered by pregnancy and making personal choices about their bodies are being treated like criminals for seeking abortions. Even women who have been raped are not allowed to terminate their pregnancies.

To criminalize abortions robs women of their free will and also endangers their lives by forcing them to seek out black market solutions. I ask that you end the criminalization of abortions and allow women who are in danger of losing their lives safe and easy access to treatment.

No human being has the right to impose their ideology or belief on the free will and choice of another…period.

    • Shame on you for not considering that the fetus is also a person, and shame on you for being a killer, and shame on you for inflicting pain on babies. Even if you haven’t had an abortion, you condone the violence. There’s no place in heaven for you, but you just guaranteed your spot in hell. Have fun!

      • Oh, and Tasha…big words from someone who doesn’t leave a full name with their opinion! People have the right to their own opinions and choices. Being you are sounding so churchy….it is wrong of you to be judging these people for their opinions. It is only gods place to place judgment on anyone. So….you yourself may be where you are trying to suggest people will go. HAVE FUN!! If you are entitled to your own opinions, so are other people. God wants you to live YOUR life properly which means do not judge other people and focus on yourself.

  2. I stand with other women, I stand with the welfare of the environment (overpopulatoin), women should have the right to choose abortion.

  3. Rachel Davies says:

A woman’s right to chose – everyone else, esp you religious pricks, stay out of it.

  4. Gen Lovyet Agustsson says:

  5. Gen Lovyet Agustsson says:

  6. ginger neimo says:

If someone does not want a child they will not make a good mother.

How sad that if you have not taken a breath- it means nothing..

  7. It is up to a woman to make a choice!
The world is overpopulated as it is, and many are unwanted children. In countries like Africa many are conceived by rape.

  8. Sorry, I can not sign this. Every human being has the right to live. There are other methods to prevent women from getting pregnant.
