Don’t Block U.S. Donations Intended to Help Earthquake Victims

Target: Donald Trump, President of the United States

Goal: Allow monetary aid to reach Iranians suffering in the aftermath of a massive earthquake.

A devastating 7.3 earthquake struck the Middle Eastern country of Iran, leaving at least 500 dead and thousands more wounded or homeless. While the world has responded with an enormous outpouring of aid and support, the United States Treasury is reportedly holding back hundreds of thousands of dollars in aid from well intentioned Iranian-Americans and other U.S. citizens. So far President Trump has made no statement regarding the disaster or the fundraising situation.

For the past several decades, the U.S. has imposed strict sanctions on Iran that have prevented cash contributions. However, the U.S. Treasury’s official policy is intended to make exceptions in the case of disaster relief. This does not appear to be happening in the case of personal contributions and crowdfunding efforts, which many are reporting are being shut down on social media and other websites. Those looking to help out are forced to hunt down a small handful of approved organizations, which can be difficult for immigrant families hoping to help their relatives in their native land.

Politics should not have a say in who can send and receive aid following a major natural disaster. Sign below to demand that the United States make necessary exceptions to its policy to allow charitable assistance to reach those most desperately in need.

PETITION LETTER:

Dear President Trump,

Your silence following the damaging earthquake in Iran and its aftermath speaks volumes. While thousands of innocent Iranians have been injured or are now homeless, your administration has done nothing to address concerns that funds intended to help these survivors are being blocked by the U.S. Treasury. Concerned relatives of victims living in the United States are struggling to find ways to help out, while other well intentioned U.S. citizens feel unable to provide any meaningful aid as the death toll in Iran continues to climb.

We must do more as a country to help the people of Iran. You have said before that you have “a great heart.” Now is the time to prove it. We, the undersigned, demand that you lift arbitrary restrictions on all charitable donations intended to help the innocent victims of this quake.

Sincerely,

Trouble is that the money will not be used to help the victims. The government already has had billions from blocked accounts which has been used, not to benefit the people, but to promote Hezbollah and other Muslim terrorist groups as well as to continue their nuclear weapons research. Much of this money has gone to North Korea who is doing much of this on their behalf. It is sad that people are so ignorant of the truth because they cannot be bothered to read the news. Mind you, with the fake news media sites in America and the sheer blind stupidity of snowflakes etc, why am surprised that someone would pen this petition. If I thought, for one minute, that the sufferers would benefit then I would sign but, that is NOT going to happen.

The winds of despair are, alas, blowing from every direction, and the strife that divideth and afflicteth the human race is daily increasing. The signs of impending convulsions and chaos can now be discerned, inasmuch as the prevailing order appeareth to be lamentably defective. I beseech God, exalted be His glory, that He may graciously awaken the peoples of the earth, may grant that the end of their conduct may be profitable unto them, and aid them to accomplish that which beseemeth their station. – Baha’i Faith Writings
