Teach LGBTQ History in Classrooms

Target: Larry Wittig, Chairperson of the Pennsylvania State Board of Education

Goal: Teach LGBTQ history in Pennsylvania’s classrooms.

Only one state in the country, California, has approved an LGBTQ-inclusive history curriculum. Now, it is time to encourage other states in the nation, such as Pennsylvania, to follow in California’s footsteps and mandate the teaching of a fair and equal LGBTQ curriculum in history classrooms.

The LGBTQ community has played a major role in our nation’s history and they should be recognized no differently than other historical figures. From Harvey Milk to Stonewall, LGBTQ history has shaped the fabric of America. Its impact cannot be ignored.

An LGBTQ-inclusive curriculum requires that history books fairly portray the impact the LGBTQ community has made be taught to students in kindergarten through eighth grade. Sign the petition and demand that an LGBTQ-inclusive curriculum to be taught to our nation’s students.

Dear Mr. Wittig,

As California becomes the only state to mandate a fair and equal LGBTQ curriculum in school classrooms, Pennsylvania still has work to do. The LGBTQ community has made a positive impact to our nation that cannot go ignored. Their story shapes the story of America.

Schoolchildren in America should learn about these positive contributions. I ask that Pennsylvania follow California’s lead and work to include LGBTQ-inclusive lessons in classrooms across the state.
