End Child Labor in the Tobacco Industry

Target: Richard Burrows, Chairman of British American Tobacco

Goal: End child labor in the big tobacco industry.

The tobacco industry is rife with child labor violations. Children as young as eight are toiling in the fields of nations like Indonesia to pick tobacco for giant companies like British American Tobacco. This must be brought to an end.

Some tobacco companies, like Phillip Morris, are attempting to change their policies. Meanwhile, the United Nations has attempted to prevent child labor in the industry (with very little success). It is time for tobacco companies themselves to cut ties with farms using child labor, lessening the demand for their product.

Hurting the pockets of these tobacco farms may be the only way for them to realize that they are abusing the rights of children. Sign the petition and demand that one of the world’s leading tobacco companies, British American Tobacco, cut ties with tobacco farms utilizing child labor.

PETITION LETTER:

Dear Mr. Burrows,

Millions of children around the world are toiling in tobacco fields to help bring your product to the shelves of stores around the world. Your company is benefiting from the abuse of children. This must be brought to an end.

Competitors, like Phillip Morris, have altered their policies to protect the rights and lives of children. Now you must do the same. I demand that your company cut ties with any tobacco farms currently utilizing the illegal labor of young children.

Sincerely,

Children belong in school not working as slaves. Shame on you tobacco industry and those who buy tobacco products!

  2. BAN THE CRUEL CHILD LABOR NOW.

  3. Catherine Jenereaux says:

STOP SMOKING and that would put companies like the British American Tobacco out of business. BMT needs to be fined millions of dollars for purchasing material from tobacco farms using children. You can’t tell me that these FAT Tobacco companies don’t know what is going on at their suppliers. They are as guilty and as such need to pay. Get these kids in school where they should be. Force the Tobacco companies to have to pay for schools to be built and cover the cost of children attending them. What century do we live in?

  4. Gen Lovyet Agustsson says:

ban tobacco cigs now. ban child labor.
