Target: Leslie McGill, Executive Director of California Police Chiefs Association
Goal: Demand the union stop contributing to the effort to continue marijuana prohibition
Police unions across the country are the single largest supporters of marijuana prohibition. The California Police Chiefs Association (CPCA) is just one of dozens of these unions. The only reason they support prohibition is so they can maintain job security. If marijuana were legalized, it would simply decrease the need for police since there are nearly 1 million marijuana-related arrests in the U.S. per year. It seems more logical that the police unions, the CPCA included, want more crime so they can make more arrests which require more officers which ends in more union dues as opposed to being against marijuana on some moral level.
Even if they are morally against marijuana, millions of people disagree with them. The police should express the will of society as opposed to trying to halt it for their own agendas. It seems very sinister that police would campaign for more crime, yet that is precisely what they are doing. Sign the petition to stop the police union’s campaign against marijuana use.
Dear Ms. McGill,
Your organization is only one of dozens of police unions that fund efforts to maintain marijuana prohibition. It is clear that this is only done so that the nearly 1 million marijuana-related arrests per year in this country will continue so police departments will have more work to do. Regardless of the fact that these marijuana users do not harm society and are often upstanding citizens otherwise, your organization continues to create criminals.
You know the deal and society does as well. It seems wrong that you and other police officers would work to make criminals out of people. If the public wills an end to marijuana prohibition, you should not let your own selfish goals get in the way. Stop using your funds to support marijuana prohibition if you have any shred of respect for the citizens you are sworn to protect. This is just another way you can work to bridge the ever-widening gap between the police and the citizens that they exist only to protect.
