Target: U.S. Congress
Goal: Revoke the Congressional Charter given to the Boy Scouts of America
With the recent release of the so-called “Perversion Files,” the Boy Scouts of America have proven that they are not an organization that represents positive morals. Unfortunately, the organization was given a Congressional Charter; which is a mostly symbolic and honorary gesture given by Congress to organizations that were thought to uphold true American values. It seems that the intricate web of deceit and suppression of information the Boy Scouts have employed over the years in order to hide the fact that there were pedophiles in their ranks will make it difficult to prosecute individuals. A revocation of Congressional Charter seems to be at least a step in the right direction.
This revocation of the Boy Scouts’ Charter will not reverse the damage, but it will make it clear that the U.S. Government does not support their actions. It is time that the Boy Scouts of America are told by Congress and the society that trusted them that they have failed in a major way. They have betrayed the trust of a nation and destroyed the lives of countless people. The very least that can be done on a national level is to withdraw official support of such abominable actions.
Dear U.S. Congress,
A Congressional Charter is one of the highest honors an American organization can be given. The organizations that carry this proud title should do everything they can to live by the image they portray. Taking an official stance of support in hiding pedophiles, as the Boy Scouts of America have done, is not behavior deserving of a Congressional Charter to say the least. The Boy Scouts have done more than enough to deserve the revocation of this honor.
Sexual exploitation of children and the subsequent attempt to cover it up is against everything a Congressional Charter stands for. It is time for Congress to put some stock in this honor and take it away from this organization. If a Congressional Charter is to have any meaning at all, this is the only reasonable option.
