End Violence Against Women

Target: Tabaré Vázquez, President of Uruguay

Goal: End violence against women and other human rights abuses in Uruguay.

Despite supporting international human rights, there are still human rights abuses occurring in the country of Uruguay, including violence against women. In the nation, there is a high rate of gender-killings geared toward women, with little to no action by the government to prevent this violence.

Women are not only killed because of their gender, but they’re also being denied basic reproductive rights. In addition to violence against women, human rights are also under attack in Uruguay’s prisons. There is a high incarceration rate, where prisoners both young and old must endure brutal and filthy conditions.

Uruguay supporting international human rights efforts is an important step for the nation and the world. However, in supporting human rights efforts abroad, it cannot turn a blind eye to human rights abuses in its own borders. Sign the petition and demand that Uruguay end violence against women and other human rights abuses.

Dear President Vázquez,

As Uruguay turns its focus to international human rights, it is important that the nation not forget about human rights behind its own borders. There is an alarming rate of violence against women in the nation. There are also shocking abuses in the nation’s prison system.

If Uruguay really wants the rest of the world to take seriously its human rights efforts, it must start at home and show the world it respects all of its citizens and their rights. I demand that you work to end violence against women and protect the rights of others in your nation.
