Vietnam: Release Student Blogger from Detention

Target:  Hà Hùng Cường, Minister of Justice, Vietnam

Goal: Drop charges against student blogger and end the persecution of men and women exercising their free speech.

A student blogger in Vietnam has been charged and held captive by the Vietnamese government for writing online blog posts critical of the government and its leaders. This is a blatant abuse of human rights.

Phan Kin Khanh is not the first writer or student to be arrested, nor will he be the last if the Vietnamese government doesn’t start allowing its citizens to express their ideas and opinions freely and openly. Khanh may face more than a decade in prison.

Khanh should be released immediately. The laws forbidding free speech are outdated and have no place in the 21st century. Demand Vietnam release Khanh and end its detainment and persecution of men and women only seeking a free voice.

Dear Minister Cường,

A young student in your country may soon face over a decade in prison for speaking out against your government online. The laws that allow for his arrest are outdated, especially in the very digital 21st century.

Phan Kin Khanh’s human rights have been blatantly violated. There is no harm to free speech. It holds a government and its leaders accountable. A government that silences free speech only proves it has something to fear and hide. I demand he be released and the laws that persecute him, and others sharing their voice, be thrown out.
