Justice for Pelican Found Dead and Bound in Wire

Target: Huey Hoss Mack, Sheriff of Baldwin County, Alabama

Goal: Justice for pelican found dead and bound against its will.

A pelican was found dead in Alabama with electrical tape wrapped around its beak and wire around one wing and its feet. An investigation is currently underway, but it has been suspected that the bird was bound for the purposes of a sale or trade. Such actions would be illegal, as pelicans are protected under the Migratory Bird Treaty Act.

The circumstances behind the death of the bird are yet unknown, but it is a death that should not have happened. The pelican is currently on the Least Concern list regarding vulnerability and endangerment, but that does not mean it deserves any less protection than other species. The sale and trade of wildlife is illegal and unethical, and should it turn out those were the circumstances behind the bird’s death, the culprit or culprits must face justice.

This bird’s death need not be in vain. Sign this petition to demand the culprits be found and punished immediately, and that the laws be strengthened to protect future incidents like this.

Dear Sheriff Mack,

The death of a pelican found wrapped in wire and electrical tape is currently under investigation. While the species as a whole is not endangered, they are currently under the protection of the Migratory Bird Treaty Act. Suspicions have been raised that the bird was bound for the purposes of sale or trade, which would violate the act.

The death of any wild animal by the hands of human beings is a senseless tragedy and the ultimate act of cruelty. This innocent bird did not need to die, especially for the sake of a practice that is illegal. Please ensure that the investigation uncovers the true culprits as soon as possible, and that the culprits face justice for their actions. Additionally, please strengthen your legal protection of pelicans to prevent such an incident from happening in the future.
