Shut Down Fur Farm that Allegedly Kills Protected Wolves

Target: U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service, Office of Law Enforcement

Goal: Close down Fur-Ever Wild in Minnesota, a ‘petting zoo’ that allegedly kills wolves for their fur illegally.

According to animal rights advocates, animals such as cougars, bobcats, lynx, foxes and gray wolves live in inadequate conditions at Fur-Ever Wild in Minnesota, and are then killed for their fur when they are too big for the petting zoo. Gray wolf pups are the main attraction at the petting zoo, where visitors come for photo ops and to feed the animals. However, gray wolves are also protected under the Endangered Species Act (ESA) from being killed for commercial gain, which is what reportedly happens to them at Fur-Ever Wild when they approach adulthood, though visitors to the facility may not know it.

The owner of Fur-Ever Wild, Terri Petter, has stated outright that the business is primarily a fur farm, and that except for the goats and pigs, all the animals there are raised for their fur. The Animal Legal Defense Fund and the Lockwood Animal Rescue Center have both filed lawsuits against Fur-Ever Wild, alleging that the business violated the ESA by killing and selling the body parts of gray wolves and by failing to provide them with adequate care and living facilities. Sign below to demand that this cruel and illegal practice be stopped, and Fur-Ever Wild shut down.

PETITION LETTER:

Dear Law Enforcement Office of the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service,

Fur-Ever Wild, a ‘petting zoo’ in Minnesota, allegedly keeps its animals in inadequate conditions and kills them for their fur when they become too big to be featured as tourist attractions. These animals include the gray wolf, which is protected from being harmed for commercial game under the Endangered Species Act.

The owner of Fur-Ever Wild has acknowledged that nearly all of the animals kept there are raised for their fur. Visitors who pay to feed the animals and to take photos with them are likely unaware of the ultimate fate of the animals — to be slaughtered, and their body parts sold for financial gain. Animal rights advocates have filed lawsuits urging that the company be stopped due to its inhumane conditions and allegedly illegal practices. I urge you to heed their call and to shut down Fur-Ever Wild.

Sincerely,
