Target: North Korean Government
Goal: Reform North Korean military to stop killing members and civilians
The North Korean Head of State, Kim Jong-un, is systematically executing members of the military. Under ‘normal circumstances’ these executions would take place by firing squad. These executions have escalated and the latest victim was said to have been annihilated by a mortar.
A mortar is an indirect fire weapon that fires explosive projectiles at low velocities. Its victim, Kim Chol, was the Vice Minister of the North Korean army. Kim Chol was taken into custody earlier this year for drinking and having fun during a time of mourning. When the time came for his execution, officials were told by Kim Jong-un to leave no trace of him behind. Kim Chol was forced to stand in one spot while fired upon by a mortar round and obliterated.
It has become clear that Kim Jong-un is purging the members of the military who impose a threat to his leadership. In an act of defiance against criticisms of his age and inexperience, he is tightening his grip on the military ranks. After his father’s sudden death, Kim Jong-un took over as the Head of State in late 2010.
The numbers are still unclear, but since his takeover, he has reportedly been the cause of the dismissal or disappearance of at least 31 senior officials. Kim Jong-un has been killing military officials under the excuse that they had misbehaved during the 100 day mourning period for his father.
Kim Jong-un is running North Korea under a ‘military first’ policy. The military gets portions of business deals and controls some of the economy, making these tactics an even greater risk. It is becoming clear that Kim Jong-un represents a new, dangerous leadership for North Korea.
If a life can be taken so casually in its own military, the citizens of North Korea have no hope. Life has become even more terrifying in North Korea. Sign the petition to demand a change in the North Korean government. This type of mass killing cannot be tolerated.
Dear Government of North Korea,
The tactics your military is using to ensure loyalty are barbaric. A military that executes its own members is not in the best interest of the people of North Korea. A military is supposed to protect, not obliterate high ranking officials within its own department.
The regime that Kim Jong-un is systematically putting into place is a danger to the citizens of North Korea, and the world as a whole. If this information is being released to the public, whatever information they are hiding behind closed doors is frightening.
The commonplace executions of high ranking officials in North Korea have been taken to an even more alarming state; executing the Vice Minister of the army by mortar so as not to leave a trace of him behind. This approach to leadership is primitive and inhumane. People should not have to live in fear of being executed for misbehaving, especially high ranking officials. Kim Jong-un needs to stop executing people in an attempt to rid the country of people who doubt his authority.
