Success: Gucci Promises to Go Fur-Free

Target: Marco Bizzarri, CEO of Gucci

Goal: Support Gucci’s pledge to no longer use animal fur in its products.

Gucci chief executive Marco Bizzarri announced that the luxury fashion company will stop using animal fur in any of its products from 2018 onward, in a move toward the brand’s commitment to “sustainability.” Thanks to campaigners, petitions like this one at ForceChange, and Gucci’s new creative director Alessandro Michele, the company’s next collection and all products thereafter will be fur-free, and its remaining older items with fur will be sold at auction, with proceeds going to animal rights organizations such as the Humane Society.

According to Bizzarri, “Being socially responsible is one of Gucci’s core values, and we will continue to strive to do better for the environment and animals.” Alessandro Michele’s appointment as creative director came because he “shared a belief in the importance of the same values,” and those values are finally being implemented. Gucci will become part of the Fur-Free Alliance, which campaigns for the welfare of animals and advocates for alternatives to fur in fashion. The president of Humane Society International called this move “a huge game-changer,” saying that it “will have a huge ripple effect throughout the world of fashion.”

Sign below to support this compassionate and humane decision.

PETITION LETTER:

Dear CEO Bizzarri,

Thank you for committing to removing animal fur from Gucci’s products and taking a stand for animal welfare. The decision to stand by strong values of compassion, sustainability, and social responsibility in your company will have a huge impact on innocent animals who are all too often inhumanely slaughtered in the name of fashion, and will even affect the entire industry itself.

As president of Humane Society International Kitty Block stated, “For this Italian powerhouse to end the use of fur because of the cruelty involved will have a huge ripple effect throughout the world of fashion.” Your “compassionate decision” will prove to be “a huge game-changer.” I support Gucci’s commitment to humanity, compassion, animals, and the environment by pledging to go fur-free.

Sincerely,
