Expel LSU Fraternity Members Allegedly Responsible for Student’s Death

Target: F. King Anderson, President of Louisiana State University

Goal: Immediately expel 10 students allegedly involved in hazing that led to freshman’s death.

A freshman at LSU recently died due to a reported hazing incident at the Phi Delta Theta chapter house. Maxwell Gruver, age 19, had a blood alcohol content of .495 at the time of his death — more than six times the legal intoxication level. It is reported that the hazing involved answering questions about the fraternity and being forced to drink when an answer was incorrect.

While many schools and Greek groups have a blanket anti-hazing policy, many chose to ignore these rules. The 10 members of Phi Delta Theta need to be held responsible for their alleged actions and immediately expelled from LSU.

Thirty-three students in the past decade have died from hazing, a situation easily avoidable if over-consumption of alcohol was not pushed upon members in sororities and fraternities. Sign the petition to demand that schools crack down on this inappropriate behavior in order to save the lives of students.

PETITION LETTER

Dear Mr. Anderson,

Ten Phi Delta Theta fraternity members have reportedly been identified by the police as being responsible for the death of 19-year-old freshman Maxwell Gruver during a hazing incident. At the time of his death, Gruver’s blood alcohol content was .495, which is more than six time the average state’s legal intoxication level.

The tradition of hazing within Greek life has repeatedly been condemned, with little to no change actually happening. The death of this LSU student must be made known, and those involved need to be held responsible.

The immediate suspension of the fraternity members involved in Gruver’s death is the first step in fair punishment for the unjust behavior of these students. Police have identified the following as those involved in Gruver’s death: Mathew Naquin, 19; Zachary Castillo, 19; Elliott Eaton, 20; Zachary Hall, 21; Hudson Kirkpatrick, 19; Sean Pennison, 21; Nicholas Taulli, 19; and 18-year-old Ryan Isto. This is not the time to defend the positive impact Greek life may have on students, this is the time to hold students responsible for another students death.

Sincerely,
