Compensate Family of Tiger Mauling Victim

Target: Dr. Harsh Vardhan, Indian Minister of Environment, Forest and Climate Change

Goal: Provide compensation for the family of Anjeneya.

The family of a worker killed by tigers at an Indian national park has demanded compensation, accusing the man’s employers of negligence. The worker, known only as Anjeneya, was fatally mauled by two rare white tiger cubs at the popular Bannerghatta Biological Park. According to The Hindu, workers at the park said Anjeneya had been hired as a cleaner, and had previously worked as a security guard. He allegedly had little experience with exotic animals, and the newspaper reported he had only been assigned to the safari area after another staff member didn’t show up to work.

The death itself occurred after Anjeneya had entered a tiger enclosure to retrieve uneaten food. He allegedly failed to ensure a gate was properly closed, and was surprised when the tigers attacked him.

Both park workers and the family have argued Anjeneya should never have been allowed near the tigers without proper training. “Since the zoo no longer hires trained permanent employees, untrained contract workers are used. This is dangerous for them and for the animals,” one anonymous worker told The Hindu.

Anjeneya’s family has since staged a protest outside the park, and demanded they provide compensation. Sign below to demand they be compensated.

PETITION LETTER

Dear Dr. Vardhan,

As India’s environment minister, the buck stops with you when it comes to problems at the Bannerghatta National Park. The park is currently in a state of shock, after day worker Anjeneya was killed by tigers. His family and coworkers alike have argued he lacked the proper training to work with these animals, and should never have been assigned to such a dangerous job.

We call on you to concede to the family’s demands, namely providing compensation for their loss, and take steps to improve worker safety at India’s national parks.

Sincerely,

  1. Gen Lovyet Agustsson says:

would you let an animal eat you? then stop killing animals and reduce human overpopulation. they were firing them at the zoo for mistreatment of animals. stop hiring untrained emplyees and do something about it now. abolish zoos now.
