Target: Leslie Moonves, President of CBS Corporation
Goal: Reconsider decision to fire Blue Bloods actress Jennifer Esposito for on-set collapse due to Celiac disease
Jennifer Esposito plays Detective Jackie Curatola on the CBS show Blue Bloods and was recently given a leave of absence due to her Celiac disease diagnosis. CBS put her on unpaid leave and released a statement saying she was no longer able to perform the demands of the role. Tell CBS to resolve her firing by rehiring her on a limited basis or by allowing her to work elsewhere.
Blue Bloods is a cop drama on CBS, premiering over two years ago in September of 2010. Not long after, actress Jennifer Esposito joined the cast as Donny Wahlberg’s partner, playing the role of Detective Jackie Curatola. Her current work history with CBS appears to be satisfactory, with no apparent conflicts or issues. But when she informed CBS of her doctor’s recommendation to a more limited work schedule, CBS decided to write her off the show.
Ms. Jennifer Esposito has been vocal about her struggle with Celiac disease, an autoimmune disorder of the small intestine that can cause chronic diarrhea, fatigue, and other symptoms. It usually is triggered or made worse by eating wheat. CBS had initially ignored her request for a more limited work schedule and she then later collapsed on set. She was out for a week. When she tried to return to work, she was told that her character would be taking a leave of absence and she was put on unpaid leave. CBS’ later statement mentioned nothing of the Celiac disease, the on-set collapse, or the doctor’s recommendations.
It is shameful that CBS would release a statement that did not fully disclose the facts and that it is also blocking her from working elsewhere. They never even attempted the doctor’s recommendation of a reduced work schedule. Please sign the petition below asking CBS to make additional attempts to resolve her recent firing.
Dear President Leslie Moonves,
Ms. Jennifer Esposito played Detective Jackie Curatola on your cop drama show Blue Bloods. When she informed you of some work limitations due to her Celiac disease diagnosis, you forced her to take an unpaid leave of absence and then dropped her from the show. Please look into this matter and consider hiring her back with a limited work schedule or at least stop blocking her from being able to work elsewhere.
Out of work for two months, CBS should try to help this former employee who gave two whole years of her time and dedication to the Blue Bloods show. Celiac disease is a painful and very debilitating disease and she needs your support, not additional complications. Please attempt to help Ms. Esposito during this difficult and challenging period in her life.
