Stop EPA’s Encouragement of Coal Pollution

Target: Scott Pruitt, Administrator of the Environmental Protection Agency

Goal: Stop the Trump administration’s attack on our environment and climate.

Scott Pruitt, the head of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), has announced plans that he will repeal Obama-era regulations that limit the amount of carbon coal-fired power plants can produce. If these rules are removed, these plants will no longer have to comply with rules that the Obama administration laid out that were intended to significantly cut back on overall emissions by the year 2030.

The so-called Clean Power Plan was hailed by environmentalists as being one of the most important contributions that the Obama administration made for the environment. It was seen as a key step toward limiting the damage coal plants could cause in terms of greenhouse gases, and as a way to help America match worldwide efforts to combat global warming and climate change. Without it, the United States will be putting our future on this planet at risk, as evidenced by recent catastrophic weather events and rising sea levels.

We must demand that the Clean Power Plan remain in effect and that coal-fired power plants not be given free reign to pollute the atmosphere. Sign this petition to tell Scott Pruitt that you want these regulations to remain in place.

Dear Mr. Pruitt,

You recently announced plans to repeal the Obama-era Clean Power Plan as a way to cater to the interests of the energy industry. While American jobs are important, repealing this regulation will not bring back the jobs in the coal industry that have already left. The United States’ reliance on coal is holding us back and is putting the global environment at risk. Regulations on how much carbon these plants can emit are necessary to reverse the effects of climate change that are currently impacting millions worldwide.

Despite efforts by yourself and so many in your agency to deny the reality of scientific evidence, global warming is the most pressing issue of our time. We demand that you keep these regulations in place to prevent the catastrophic destruction of our environment.

I can assure you, as a resident of Oklahoma and painfully aware of Scott Pruitt, no amount of Petitions or what’s said in them will stop this cretin from destroying this country’s natural treasures or the air we have to breathe. Between him, Zinke, and the current resident of the Oval Office (yuck !), we’re pretty much doomed.
