Justice for Over 20 Animals Allegedly Kept in Cruel and Unsanitary Conditions

Target: Stephen A. Zappala Jr., District Attorney for Allegheny County, Pennsylvania

Goal: Demand that the person who allegedly kept more than 20 animals in cruel conditions without food or water receive the maximum penalty by law.

Over 20 animals, including almost two dozen dogs, were allegedly kept in cruel conditions. The dogs were reportedly confined to small wire and plastic crates without food or water. Demand justice for these poor animals.

“Right away we could see that many of them were emaciated,” stated Jess Farrell, the interim executive director of Griffin Pond Animal Shelter. The shelter’s humane officer reportedly discovered about two dozen dogs, a snake, a lizard, a ferret and a hedgehog all living in unsanitary conditions. The dogs were reportedly kept in wire and plastic crates, and they sat atop the wire bottoms without any cushion. Per volunteers, many of the crates were rusty, and some of the dogs became so hungry that they chewed through the plastic parts of their crates.

The animals are now in the care of Griffin Pond Animal Shelter. Animal cruelty charges are pending against the owner of the home, who remains unnamed. Sign below and demand that the person responsible for this cruelty receive the maximum penalty by law.

Dear District Attorney Zappala,

Nearly two dozen dogs and multiple smaller animals suffered when they were allegedly kept in cruel and unsanitary conditions. The animals reportedly lived in rusty wire and plastic crates and had no access to food or water. We demand justice for these innocent animals.

A humane officer with Griffin Pond Animal Shelter visited the Scott Township home to serve a warrant and reportedly discovered over 20 animals living in cruel conditions. Nearly two dozen dogs were reportedly confined to rusty wire and plastic crates, and many were forced to stand atop the wires without even a blanket as a cushion. Per volunteers, a snake, a ferret, a hedgehog, and a lizard also suffered from neglect. Some of the dogs became so hungry that they allegedly chewed through the plastic parts of their crates, and many of the animals appeared emaciated.

This horrific cruelty must be punished. We demand that you seek the maximum penalty in this case.
