Stop Republican Senators’ Attack on Endangered Species

Target: Senator Tom Carper, Ranking Member of the U.S. Senate Committee on Environment and Public Works

Goal: Don’t restrict the Endangered Species Act by leaving which animals live or die up to the states.

Senators are attempting to seriously restrict the Endangered Species Act by prohibiting species only found in one state from the list. This will lead to the extinction of an outstanding amount of species.

The senators in favor of the so-called Native Species Protection Act say that the Endangered Species Act has hurt the economies of states where endangered species live. However, hundreds of imperiled plant and animal species have been protected with little or no negative economic impact. Meanwhile, conserving endangered species and their habitat can actually help boost economies by providing outdoor recreational and tourist activities. Should this misguided new bill pass, it will permanently change the environmental and economic landscape of our country for the worse.

Many senators under the Trump administration have attempted to restrict the Endangered Species Act, yet none have succeeded. Ensure this most recent bill meets the same fate. Sign the petition and ask the Senate to reject this bill.

PETITION LETTER:

Dear Senator Carper,

Republican senators are introducing a bill that would severely limit the Endangered Species Act and potentially lead to the extinction of hundreds of species across the nation. This Native Species Protection Act will prevent animals only found in one state from appearing on the endangered species list.

The health of the environment is not a states’ rights issue. It is a national issue, one we are all responsible for. I ask that you and your fellow senators vote against this bill.

Sincerely,
