Target: Mitt Romney, Republican presidential nominee
Goal: Get Mitt Romney to stop using women’s health in an attempt to grab votes
Recently, Mitt Romney has claimed that if he is elected president he will not push legislation to restrict abortion. Previously, the former governor of Massachusetts had stated that if elected he would actively appoint justices to the Supreme Court who would seek to overturn Roe v. Wade. This is the first time in his presidential bid that Mitt Romney has changed his tone on abortion.
While Mitt Romney has gotten a reputation throughout this election as a “flip-flopper,” this latest statement really takes the cake. Women’s health is not a political game. It is a serious issue that affects the lives of over half of this nation. Governor Romney’s political move does not make him a better candidate for women voters; it just proves that he is willing to switch any opinion of his in order to grab votes.
Please sign the petition below, and let Mitt Romney know that abortion is not a political game. It is a personal health issue that should remain between a woman and her doctor. Mitt Romney and other politicians must know that women’s health is too important to flip-flop on in order to ensure more votes. It should not be a political game as it directly affects the lives of so many individuals.
Dear Governor Romney,
Women’s health is a very important issue, inside the election cycle and outside of it. It affects more than half of the citizens you hope to one day call your constituents. When you flippantly change your position on such a major issue, it does not make it appear that you care about women. It makes you look like the kind of person who would say anything to gain votes.
Abortion is not just a political talking point. In many cases, it can be a needed procedure that could save a woman’s life. It is a right of all American women to safely procure one if that is what they and their doctors deem best, and is guaranteed by the Constitution as interpreted by the Supreme Court.
There are many issues in this election that do need to be addressed and fixed. Please be honest with the American people and address those issues honestly, without contradiction. While I, and many others, am pleased to see you take a more positive stance on abortion, please do not use women’s health to try and grab votes. Please look out for women’s health because it is the right thing to do.
