Rebuild Island Devastated by Irma

Target: Rex Tillerson, United States Secretary of State

Goal: Help island of Barbuda rebuild after Hurricane Irma devastation.

The small, remote island of Barbuda has been left empty and devastated by Hurricane Irma. Homes, businesses, and other establishments were destroyed, killing 19 people and forcing the island’s entire remaining population to evacuate. News reports call it “a civilization extinguished.” Worse, many of the people driven off the island were forced to leave their animals behind.

This is one of the worst crises brought on by a natural disaster: an entire island, completely destroyed by the hurricane, with hundreds of animals left amidst the wreckage to starve to death. Barbuda was once a beautiful resort area known for its peaceful life and natural beauty, and it has been reduced to the aftermath of a disaster.

We must aid Barbuda in rebuilding, in addition to aiding the animals left behind in the heat of evacuation. Sign the petition below to ask the U.S. to help Barbuda.

PETITION LETTER:

Dear Secretary Tillerson,

The island of Barbuda has been completely destroyed by Hurricane Irma. Homes, businesses, and the island’s natural beauty are a thing of the past, while those who weren’t killed in the storm were forced to evacuate, leaving their animals behind. This is a full-scale devastation; more than a disaster, it is a humanitarian crisis.

We must aid in the reconstruction of this once-beautiful place, in addition to protecting and caring for the animals left behind. Now is the time to reach out and give all we can to aid those in distress, to make Barbuda inhabitable once again. The effort to rebuild will take roughly $250 million and at least part of that should come from the United States. Please ensure that the effort receives the funds needed, and that the animals will be taken care of as well.

Sincerely,

  1. Gen Lovyet Agustsson says:

stop naming hurricanes! just number hurricanes everytime hurricanes come and go.

    • Hurricanes have been named for CENTURIES…..Before the “pc” movement they all had female names, now they alternate male and female names thus destroying a very old tradition! BUT: my point is, naming hurricanes goes back a long time…why change it to something like a number? Makes no sense!
