Target: Executive Management of Petaluma Egg Farm
Goal: End the cruel treatment of egg-producing chickens
Judy’s Family Farm Organic Eggs, a large producer of eggs labeled to be “organic” and from “free-range” chickens based out of the Petaluma Egg Farm in California, has just been revealed as a scam. Rather than allowing the chickens to roam free, as their packaging claims they do, they shove the chickens into very small cages, giving them little room to move and no time outside of the cage to roam.
This is in direct violation of a consumer protection law in the state of California, as a requirement for companies to claim organic and free-range products is that they have to live up to certain standards, such as animal treatment. Sadly, Judy’s Family Farm Organic Eggs is not an isolated case. Many companies take advantage of people’s love of animals and their well-being and cash-in on the organic food niche.
Animal welfare is not a marketing ploy but a recognition of basic rights for living creatures. Animals should not suffer at the sake of the “almighty dollar.” If you do purchase products labeled “organic” or “free-range,” make sure the products have the Animal Welfare Approved sticker on the packaging, as this label comes with the strictest scrutiny and investigation into the treatment of the animals.
Please sign the petition below and help put an end to such cruelty. Chickens are living, breathing creatures not instruments of production. Let Judy’s Family Farm Organic Eggs and similar companies know that organic and free-range means just that, and are not just terms to throw around frivolously.
Dear Executive Management of Petaluma Egg Farm,
Your usage of the “organic” and “free-range” labels is quite literally criminal. Your chickens never see the light of day and spend their lives in tight cages doing nothing but laying eggs. This treatment of animals is never acceptable, but your claim on your packaging that you make sure these animals are well-treated is a flat-out lie and is very despicable.
Please stop this cruel and unusual treatment of these creatures immediately. Animals are living creatures, not a means for production. While this scandal has sullied your public image, your company can redeem itself by changing its act and making an effort to ensure that your animals are treated with dignity and care.
You have the power to make these animal’s lives better. Please use it to change the lives of your animals and end their pain and suffering.
