Demand Teacher Apologize for Alleged Body-Shaming Remarks

Target: Melinda Moss, Superintendent of Missouri’s Joplin School District

Goal: Demand teacher apologize for allegedly body shaming student.

A Missouri teacher allegedly called out 17-year-old Kelsey Anderson for being “too busty” during class, accusing the girl of a dress code violation. According to Anderson, the teacher put much emphasis on the girl’s bust size during her callout, citing that “smaller-busted women could get away with more than larger-busted women.” To make matters worse, the principal reportedly did not believe Anderson when she reported the incident.

This is an outrage, an apparent disgusting display of body shaming as well as blatant misogyny. Anderson’s clothing actually covered up most of her body, yet the very fact that she dared not to hide the existence of her breasts was apparently deemed offensive by her teacher. Body shaming is already too common an attack on women these days, but to have it carried out by a teacher, a person in a position of authority, is a whole new level of atrocious.

The school is currently investigating whether or not the incident was a violation of the policy to maintain courteous student-teacher interactions, but Anderson’s humiliation cannot go unpunished. Sign this petition to demand the school make this teacher apologize for their behavior.

PETITION LETTER:

Dear Superintendent Moss,

A teacher in your school district has been accused of body shaming one of their students, calling her out during class for a supposed dress code violation due to her being “too busty.” Kelsey Anderson was sent to the principal’s office, where she was further humiliated by the principal who allegedly refused to believe her when she reported the teacher’s comments.

Body shaming is already an unacceptable attack towards women in this day and age, but it is even worse when it is carried out by a teacher, an individual in a position of authority whom students should be able to trust. This teacher seems to have behaved very cruelly and her remarks were out of line, and she must apologize to Anderson for the unwarranted callout. Please ensure that this happens, and that stronger rules are put in place to prevent such an incident from happening again.

Sincerely,

  1. Body shaming is an unacceptable attack against women, or anyone! This teacher should go back to school and educate herself. An a apolize is NOT enough. She needs to be dismissed. She is NOT a good role model for neither young women or men.

  2. That “teacher” shall not work in the profession at all. Even if that school have address code this issue could been handled in a more respectful and modest way, not shame out that girl among all the other students. What he did was very disgraceful as it violated this poor girls integrity.
I also agree with Raleigh Koritz, an apology is NOT enough.

body shaming people, thats wrong! teach about self acceptance!
