Fire Rush Limbaugh for Hurricane Irma Conspiracy Claims

Target: Julie Talbott, President of Premiere Networks

Goal: Fire Rush Limbaugh for claiming Hurricane Irma is part of a conspiracy.

Hurricane Irma has been described as the storm of the century, but conservative talk show host Rush Limbaugh thinks it’s all just part of a liberal-led plot involving convincing people of climate change and selling water at inflated prices. Just days before the hurricane was set to hit, Limbaugh took to the airwaves to claim, “You have people in all of these government areas who believe man is causing climate change, and they’re hell-bent on proving it, they’re hell-bent on demonstrating it, they’re hell-bent on persuading people of it.”

In ensuing comments, Limbaugh went on to discuss how the government, media and meteorological community have joined hands to apparently use hurricanes to spread fear, terror and the scientific consensus that climate change is real. “You can accomplish a lot just by creating fear and panic. You don’t need a hurricane to hit anywhere. All you need is to create the fear and panic accompanied by talk that climate change is causing hurricanes to become more frequent and bigger and more dangerous,” he said.

Later, he seemed to hint the hurricane might not turn out to be all that bad. “Another thing I’ve found, folks, these storms, once they actually hit, are never as strong as they’re reported,” he said.

Hurricane Irma has already devastated much of the Caribbean and is on track to be one of the worst storms in U.S. history. Limbaugh himself later admitted he was evacuating, and has denied ever suggesting the hurricane was a conspiracy. However, if you believe his comments were irresponsible, sign this petition to demand he be removed from the airwaves.

PETITION LETTER:

Dear Ms. Talbott,

Ahead of Hurricane Irma, one of Premiere Networks’s most well-known hosts seemed to suggest Hurricane Irma was part of a liberal conspiracy involving meteorologists trying to convince people climate change is real and the media spreading fear. Of course, climate change is very real, and fear of a massive hurricane is just as rational. Anyone in the hurricane’s path should be scared, and should take adequate precautions – unless they listen to Rush Limbaugh, apparently.

“Another thing I’ve found, folks, these storms, once they actually hit, are never as strong as they’re reported,” he claimed.

The irony is Limbaugh himself later admitted he would be evacuating, while denying he had claimed Irma was a conspiracy. However, Limbaugh’s words speak for themselves, and appear totally irresponsible coming from someone with such a large audience. We demand you fire Limbaugh, and replace him with a host who will do a better job at covering disasters in a calm, level-headed manner. Lives may well depend on it.

Sincerely,

  1. I disagree with this petition.
Free speech is a right which we all should have.
Instead of having people fired (or imprisoned) for what they say, we instead all need to learn how to do CRITICAL THINKING, including how to think outside the box.
We need to each learn how to think for ourselves, not have some “authority” tell us what to think.
If Rush Limbaugh, or anyone else, is saying these things, we have the internet, we have books, we can and should research for ourselves to see if what they say may be true or not.
I think we need to each take responsibility for what we think and believe, and stop being unthinking “followers”.

Please report this misuse of forcechange. This person isnt in danger nor protecting someone in danger. Just some political twat trying to use something good and decent for furthering a political view. Throw this bitch off forcechange.

    • a supreme court judge once ruled that “your right to free speech stops at yelling “fire!” in a crowded theatre”…..can’t recall his name, sadly.

      • Lajeanne – I am certainly willing to discuss the issue of where the limits of free speech should begin and end, if someone disagrees with me. I am a reasonable person (at least I try to be.)

  2. tina robertson says:

Fuck you whoever you are for wasting valuable space.this website isnt for you. This is for underdogs who need good people to force those in power to do what they should. It is not for you and your political bullshit. Throw this shit off of force change. IF YOU BELIEVE ANYONE COMPLETELY OR DISCOUNT ANYONE COMPLETELY THEN YOURE AN IDIOT. Who gives a flying fuck what your opinion of this man is. Fuck you. This site is for helping the weak and defenseless, NOT FOR FURTHERING SOME FUCKWAD’s POLITICAL AGENDA. Everyone report this bitch for misusing forcechange. You have been reported. By the end of the day hundreds will have reported this bullshitter.

    • Tina Robertson – I happen to disagree with Rush Limbaugh on this matter. I am simply trying to say we all should have a right to free speech and we need to think for ourselves.
And I would appreciate if you weren’t so abusive and didn’t swear so much.

        • Thank you Bengt if you are agreeing with me. Although, as I wrote below, I did change my opinion on this issue. Even though people should think for themselves, the sad fact is that often people don’t. I think that the fact that Rush Limbaugh knows he has many faithful “followers”, and yet gave advice that could have endangered their lives, was indeed irresponsible.

    • WHY be so angry and rude; you’d make a better point if you could control the profanity, etc.

  3. I want to stand in defense of myself. I was respectfully disagreeing with this petition and giving my reasons for doing so. I was not pushing any political agenda. I have hardly ever watched/listened to Rush Limbaugh and was not promoting him or his ideas.
People often disagree with petitions here and give reasons why. I always try to be as respectful of others when disagreeing with them.
I have no idea why Tina Robertson is so upset with me, and I don’t think these is any valid reason to do what she has suggested and throw me off forcechange.
    Thank you.

    • I meant to say “I always try to be as respectful of others as possible when disagreeing with them.” (I had left out “as possible”)

  4. I want to say that I admit to a previous lack of understanding about this issue, and have been looking into it more, and I now do agree with this petition.
As I don’t live in America, I haven’t been too up on the news about this hurricane or the issues surrounding Rush Limbaugh.
I realize that Rush Limbaugh was terribly irresponsible in what he said, and I totally agree that he should be fired.

why post a picture of rush limbaugh’s mugshot? just reassign him already.
