Success: Single Payer Healthcare System Gains Huge Support

Target: Kamala Harris, California Senator

Goal: Continue to gain support for Medicare for all.

Senator Kamala Harris of California is among many U.S. senators to get behind the single payer healthcare system the public has been asking for. A single payer healthcare bill is set to be introduced in the coming weeks by Senator Bernie Sanders of Vermont. During the 2016 presidential election, healthcare was among the most analyzed and discussed challenges on the platform. Despite nearly every other developed nation in the world engaging in a form of universal healthcare, presidential candidates seemed to believe, and stated so with conviction, that it simply couldn’t be done in America. All except one, that is. Senator Sanders stood proud and strong in his beliefs that Americans deserve free quality healthcare and provided an intensive and inclusive plan to get it done. In the weeks ahead, he will be reintroducing the plan with more support than ever before.

For many years now, there has been a public outcry for equal opportunity and affordability of healthcare, without the discrimination of the poor, as indicated in this petition posted on ForceChange. There have been many proposed solutions to this challenge, including the repeal of Obamacare, or the Affordable Care Act. However, there has only been one viable solution offered that satisfies the need of being both affordable for the American people and having equal opportunity for direct quality healthcare regardless of socio-economic status. That solution is what progressives are calling “Medicare for All,” according to The Huffington Post, or the Single Payer Bill. The continued struggle between the two parties has led Democrats to increase the viability and feasibility of Medicare for all. Sign this petition thanking and supporting the movement toward a single payer system and equal healthcare for all.

PETITION LETTER:

Dear Senator Harris,

We would like to thank you for standing up for the basic human right to free quality healthcare. As you know, there are roughly 27 million Americans currently without quality health coverage. While the Affordable Care Act has turned our heads in the right direction, it simply does not have enough reach.

Senator Nina Turner of Ohio, says in her article written for The Huffington Post, “Our country is reeling under the leadership of a president that cannot tell the difference between peaceful protesters and white supremacists. This is not the time for our party to move to the center.” She goes on to claim, “There is support for… universal health care coverage.”

Change comes through people being brave and standing up, being immovable, for what they believe. Considerable change comes through bold people pulling others toward the acceptance of dreams that seem impossible. We, the undersigned, thank you for being bold and co-sponsoring, with Senator Bernie Sanders, the Single Payer Bill.

Sincerely,

[Your Name Here]
