Target: Anti-Obama Documentary Director, Dinesh D’Souza
Goal: Admit false claims presented in anti-Obama documentary
Conservative writer Dinesh D’Souza recently co-directed a documentary based on one of his books that he claims reveals the hidden truth about President Obama. Even though multiple fact checkers have shown that the film includes a lot of false information, it has attracted a lot of attention, and could possibly deceive enough people to influence the presidential election. Demand that D’Souza admit to his film being nothing more than dishonest propaganda.
D’Souza’s low-budget documentary was expected to go under the radar like most conservative propaganda films, but it has ended up being the second highest grossing political documentary ever, just behind Michael Moore’s Fahrenheit 9/11. Its popularity could be due in part to the film’s portraying the president as having foreign, anti-American views. Conservatives have been trying to paint the president as an “other” since he started campaigning for his first term, possibly because of their discomfort with his race.
One of the central themes of the film is that the president has a hidden anti-American agenda based on the beliefs of his father. The president’s campaign reviewed the movie themselves, pointing out and disproving several specific lies that it presents. In one of his books about race and racism, D’Souza shows that he believes offensive stereotypes about African Americans, which could be the motivation for convincing the American public to distrust this president.
Although many documentaries and non-fiction books include false information and conspiracies in order to persuade the audience, in this case, this movie has gotten a considerable amount of attention and has the power to affect this year’s presidential election. Sign this petition and make sure the next president of the United States is not determined based on the propaganda of a conspiracy theorist.
Dear Dinesh D’Souza,
Your new documentary claims to reveal the true anti-American feelings of the current president, but a number of reliable sources have shown that many of the claims made in your film are false. Because it has attracted so much more attention than expected, the movie has the capability to affect the outcome of the upcoming presidential election.
Although it is our duty as Americans to criticize our politicians when they are dishonest or untrustworthy, it is unfair to the American people to convince them to vote one way or another based on lies and conspiracy theories. We have a right to ensure that those in power reveal any harmful intentions, but giving misleading information to such a large audience is a misuse of that right.
I am asking that you admit to intentionally misinterpreting the content of President Obama’s books to draw baseless conclusions about his beliefs, and that the claims made in your movie are nothing more than propaganda.
