Allow Instant Capture of Animal Abusers on Social Media

Target: Paul Ryan, United States House Speaker

Goal: Pass legislation to demand instant capture, investigation, and arrest of animal abusers on social media.

There is a particularly disturbing brand of animal abuse taking place: not only the mistreatment of animals, but the capture of it on videos posted to social media. The most recent incident involves two teenage girls who allegedly posted a video of themselves setting a dog on fire to Snapchat, shortly on the heels of the MTV star who shot a shark.

This trend amplifies the already reprehensible crime of animal abuse via people threatening or even ending the lives of innocent creatures just to gain views on social media. “Crush” videos involving people stomping on small creatures, pets being shot, and sharks being used to open beer cans are only a small sampling of what this trend has to offer.

However, there is one thing to be said for such a practice: those who post the videos on social media are easier to catch and investigate, and even punish. People who harm animals to gain views and attention can easily have their methods used against them, which will hopefully lead to the trend dying out. Sign this petition to urge lawmakers to create legislation requiring sites start reporting these videos to authorities.

PETITION LETTER:

Dear Representative Ryan,

Animal abusers have recently been posting videos of their actions to social media as a ploy for views. These people are all too happy to sacrifice or endanger the lives of innocent creatures for the sake of internet notoriety; two girls are recently under investigation for setting a dog on fire, and several sharks have been used as props or target practice.

However, the posting of these videos makes it much easier for the abusers to be caught. It is imperative that all social media sites report these videos to the authorities immediately, so that the perpetrators can be caught, investigated, and punished. Please do everything in your power to pass legislation putting this into effect as soon as possible; the more animal abusers are instantly caught, the greater the chance that this trend will die out.

Sincerely,

NO DOUBT, MR. RYAN, YOU ARE AWARE OF THIS INCIDENT: Two teenage girls who allegedly posted a video of themselves setting a dog on fire to Snapchat, shortly on the heels of the MTV star who shot a shark.

THIS, SIR, HAD TO STOP NOW. THANK YOU.

  3. This will be a good thing, because people are so stupid, they post videos of themselves doing things to innocent animals. This will be easier to find them and procecute them. Nasty, horrible humans.

  4. Yes I vote for that something needs to be done .
